@monika
i do love me some craigslist, and I have gotten tons of gear from it, Midi controllers, ipods, tvs, turntables. cd decks, But I have not been lucky enough to find a laptop. At least I havent been able to spot a jewel that I could fix. Again, I wish I had your skills.
So you wont ever miss a great deal.
and dont forget you don’t need a SUPER AWESOME AMAZING FUN TIME laptop just to sit around your house surfing myspace. So don’t set out looking for an i7 core laptop for under 300. heh
Your Awesome.
I would love to have a cheap browser. It would be perfect to have a Beatport machine and a gig machine.
By eliminating the ‘daily browsing’ from your gig machine, you ensure the operating system can be in pristine condition, as well. So the gig experience always rocks. Instead of ‘oh no, i’ve got spyware!’ or ‘that new messenger program I downloaded won’t close and is eating half my ram!!’
Exactly
Before any gig, i turn off my wireless card and bluetooth. Then OPen msconfig and disable everything in the startup. It doesnt take long, but it still a process id like to avoid.
You know you can make a new profile with all of that stuff already done. You can even make your shell traktor.exe instead of explorer.exe (I’m assuming you’re a traktor user)
i dont know how to do that
and yes I am a traktor user
Open the registry by going to START → Run and then typing “regedit” and clicking “OK”.
Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\system.ini\boot”.
Find the String named Shell and change its value from “SYS:Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon” to “USR:Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon”.
This tells Windows to look in the User key for the shell rather than the Machine key. If you don’t set this Windows becomes confused and Windows will see both Traktor/Serato and Explorer as your shell.
Next, go to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon”. (Be sure you’re logged into your newly made DJ account!!!)
Either find or create a string named “Shell” with a value containing your Software’s EXE (for example, “C:\program files\Rane\Serato\Serato.exe”). This sets Serato as your username’s shell.
At this point your DJ Software is set up as your shell. In order to continue using Explorer as your file manager you must complete these steps:
Navigate to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer” and create a DWORD with the name DesktopProcess and a value of 1.
Next, navigate to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced” and, again, create a DWORD with the name DesktopProcess and a value of 1.
Herm…I think the concept of a “DJ only” windows account deserves a short article. goes to make a writeup
done,
pretty cool, but i cant acess my music. ![]()
You probably shouldn’t keep your music in “my music” lol And if you do, the account it’s in should not be password protected so you can navigate through “documents and settings” to get to the music stored in the other account.
My music folder is on my desktop (no password), and it doesnt even show up. when i navigate to it. I gotta be doing something wrong or missing something
are you doing “c:\Documents and Settings$USER$\Desktop$mrbitchesmusicfolder$” ??
send me the answer out of the thread. we’ll get you running through PM
