Bit rate?

Bit rate?

Hello I have a Traktor scratch pro 2 I use Itunes I was looking through my music and some of song on my iTunes have a lower bit rate I can convert them up to an acc file which is 256kpbs. Does it really have better sound quality to up convert the files I have on my computer?

BEET?

You can’t convert up mate. Well technically you can, it will just be a bigger file at the lower quality.

Yes, upconversions don’t actually improve audio quality, which is what you want by having 320 or better bit rates. There’s really no sense in converting them up - you’ll be better off buying 320 kbps files or wavs/aiff/flacs if you have the space.

Just for the sake of information, what you are talking about is referred to as a “lossy transcode.”

Lossy transcodes are when you convert a lossy format (such as MP3) to another lossy format (AAC.)

There is no benefit to doing this, and in fact you are making the audio quality worse.

It is okay to transcode lossless to lossless (ex. WAV to FLAC) or lossless to lossy (WAV to MP3.)

So leave lossy formats as they are.

Someone else mentioned it in another thread, but it bears repeating here:

If you are opening up MP3s in an editor and then resaving them, you are also performing a lossy transcode.

Just a tip for those who are concerned with sound quality.

Like everyone says, I’ll repeat, you can’t up-convert and improve audio. It’ll say you did, but the audio will still remain shitty. You can only lower.

I believe itunes match will properly “up-convert” all your bad low bitrate rips assumming the tracks are available it should re-download a higher bitrate version.
