Build a simple midi controller, 16 knobs, 16 buttons and 8 leds?
Hello!
I have been looking around for a while now and can’t really find what I´m looking for. My goal is to build a small midi controller for a drum kit sequencer. Today I´ve got the nanokontrol 2 and it works, but I would like 16 rotary knobs instead of faders, and get rid of the transport section. It would also be nice with some more space between the small knobs so I want to build my own with 16 backlit (on/off) buttons, 16 rotary knobs and 8 leds just showing the sequence via midi. Am I thinking right if I need:
16 analog inputs for the pots
16 inputs for buttons
16 outputs for led to the buttons
8 outputs for the sequencer leds
I understand how the pots and the buttons work, but I need a brain and can’t find any cheap that handles like 64 I/O.
Anyone got any ideas? As small as possible and mac compatible!
Anyways the Livid Brain Jr sound very close to what you’re looking for. But, why not get the Twister? It already has a powerful sequencer built in and there are cool mappings for Traktor and Live.
Heh, it usually fit good on forums, I got so manny questions!
I looked around further yesterday and found this:
It’s meaning that I can build it for an amount of 70-100$! But I need an arduino brain that can handle 16 or more analog inputs, or is it possible to just ad a multiplexer? (Have I understand the meaning of a multiplexer right if so?)
I also found more diy compatible breakout boards and lots of more features on Sparkfun. For an example these rgb buttons, but they seem to need more of me as builder.. Button Pad 2x2 - Breakout PCB - SparkFun Electronics
I have been looking at the Twister, but it would be fun to build myself and it is also more expensive..
If you have any ideas about this, please mer me know!
