Buying a used S4, software issues.

Hi all!

I am in the market for an S4, but since i am a starving artist, i have a hard time coming up with the cash. Naturally i’m considering buying the S4 used.

There is one concern i have though. A buddy of mine bought a used traktor scratch duo set, and when he tried to install the software it was registered to the previous user, and would´nt work. I’m afraid this will happen if I buy a used S4 as well. Of course I could buy the software seperatly, but that would be sorta counter productive since most used sellers cut like 200$ off the price anyway. The i’ll just buy a new, shiny one.

Has anyone here bought an old one? Did you have this problem, and if so, how did you get around it? (piracy is NOT an option. Not a reliable one at least…)

Thanks!

You just have to make sure before you buy it, that the previous owner has unregistered it.

Yeah man like ^ said try all you can to make sure the software was deregistered and good to go.

Also know that NI offers full versions of their software with the purchase of most of their hardware. So, for example, if the new F1 is something you think might suite you know that you’ll be getting a full copy of the software with that purchase which in turn allows you to not worry about/badger the shit out of the S4 seller as you’re “unsure” about software deregistration and don’t want to get screwed.

I’d say if you’re a good badger you should be able to get the S4 for around $400-500, then spend the additional $300 on the F1, get the latest and greatest software and you’re still $100 under what a S4 sells for new.

i bought a used s4 a while back the seller gave me a printout from the ni website showing that he had unregistered his software

Thanks a bunch guys! I didn’t know you could unregister the software even ^^

@NoRequest: Yeah thats an ideat tha’s been crossing my mind too. We’ll see what the f1 will hve to offer! Is there an official release dat for the lil´guy yet btw?

The best way of doing it in my opinion is to always buy in person, and tell the person before hand that you’d like them to unregister it, and then when you go to pick it up, you can see for yourself if it is. And about the release date, nothing official yet, but NI has been famous for releasing products in April, so hopefully it’ll be the same with this.
