CDJ 2000 vs. V7

CDJ 2000 vs. V7

Hey guys,
I’m in the market for a new setup and I was considering going with either the Numark V7’s or the Pioneer CDJ 2000’s (notably more expensive) and was wondering if anyone could give me some help with the basic comparison. They seem to be very similar with the exception that the CDJ’s can play from CDs and USB drives. Any help on which setup to go with would be nice, or suggestions about other options would be great too. Thanks!

completely different, one is just an itch controller, one is a full on media player deck that isn’t software dependent.

I suggest you do some more research and consider what you are getting yourself into before dropping several thousand dollars.

if you have money to get a pair of cdj-2000, go for it!

V7s are great but not as flexible. They work best with serato itch, have okay performance with virtual dj from what I’ve heard, and with traktor can only be used by doing an annoying work around. I love my v7s and my preference is serato but if serato isn’t your thing you’ll regret buying them

different kit but the cdj (even though i’ve never been a massive fan of cd decks entirely). I’ve had a few goes on them now and their top notch

As the previous speakers mentioned you’ve got different kind of setup here which can hardly be compared.

Go with the V7:

  • If you’re a turntablist (moving platter)
  • if you’re a jugglist (cue-button stuff on the CDJs still sucks IMO)

Go with the CDJ2000:

  • If you’re going to spin in clubs
  • If you don’t want a computer between you and your music
  • If you don’t mind its usability flaws

You should go to a showroom and try both.

Definitely CDJ2000s with a badass mixer (DB4, DJM900 or 2000).

@Coldfuzion: We shouldn’t recommend a $5k-setup to the op without asking what he actually wants to do with it.
Especially the aforementioned mixers, while nice to have, can’t be exhausted by lets say 95% of all DJs.

Thanks a lot guys, this helps a lot. I’m definitely going to have to test them both out before deciding. Appreciate the help!

Very true, but thats my dream setup. I’d kill to have it, even if I just DJ’d for myself at home.

If you are looking for something inbetween the two (both price wise and feature wise) check out the Denon DN-S3700, it is a stand alone media player with a spinning platter and a midi controller (with “hybrid mode” for Traktor)

OK then its another story. I feel quite the same and am uber-excited to pick up two CDJ 2000s on Sunday.

@Bkag:
Good suggestion but wasn’t the Denon DN-S3700 a bit buggy?

I hate you. Please post pics, and post videos, and then go on uStream and take requests from me as to what you should be doing on the CDJs so I can live vicariously through you.

We can do that Coldfuzion but why don’t you go to a showroom and try them yourself?

I’m not hugely impressed with some of their workflows but got a pair relatively cheap.

I’ve been spinning on a pair for around 7 or 8 months now and haven’t ever had a problem. I use them exclusively in Hybrid Mode on Traktor and the only complaint I have is that they are prone to a little bit of sticker slip after heavy scratching. Apart from that they are perfect!
