CDJ choice help

The SC2900 got reduced because it isn’t selling. The Nexus is a much better player, and can be bought for £1200 new, or just over £1000 used.

Damn makar1 dude, do you get paid to go about bashing DENON on every forum? We have names for your kind. The nice one is Fanboi… I own 2 of each of these decks. Do you own something other than a computer to log into every forum and hate on Denon?

The functional difference is Rekordbox and HID platter feedback. Plenty of stuff online relating to both. One actually is the club standard, if you are concerned with that. Build quality-wise, they are about the same, with a nod to Denon, if I had to split hairs. The jogs feel pretty much just like a vinyl platter on the Denon, the Pio has the CDJ “click” to it - neither is enough to make a bit of performance difference. The Pioneer integrates more tightly with TSP than the Denon with less fuss. Just plugged into Serato DJ today with the Denon and am working on mapping it there - so far, no surprises. If you have the cash, I’d go Pioneer just for Rekordbox compatibility. Then again, this matters to me becuase I am trying to get away from playing computers and Engine is just not… quite… there. It might not matter to you at all.

If you are only after CDJ style control of your tracks, the Denon will save you a ton and is very much a joy to use. If you get the Denon, hit me up, I’ll send you several well-sorted .tsi files that make a lot more sense than the ones available online. Denon do not have the support structure online that Pio have. Demo videos, training, etc… This having been said, you can get someone on the phone quickly and they have always remedied my issues, in short order.

Hope that helps.

Where exactly do you see me “hating” Denon? I’m only pointing out the differences between the players, which you seem to be well aware of yourself. Denon players are a great alternative to CDJ 850s and below for standalone use, but they are not a directly comparable to the 900 and above.

HID integration is not limited to Traktor Pro (read - no Scratch necessary); it also works seamlessly with Serato, VDJ, and Cross - all with 0 setup process required. It’s all plug-and-play on both Windows and OSX.

Surely you mean the 2000 and above? They are extremely comparable to the 900 considering they offer almost identical feature sets except for hot-cues (2900) & HID mode (900)? They both have network links, quantized looping, slip mode, similar waveforms, digital outputs etc.

I sold my CDJ900s to buy the SC2900s and they are an improvement in every area for my use- i.e. using them as standalone players or linked to Engine software (as I used my 900s with Rekordbox). The only advantage the 900s have is the HID capability, and if being used for software control I would almost certainly recommend them ahead of the 2900 for this reason.

For all other applications though the 2900 is more than comparable to everything apart from the 2000 & 2000nexus.
