CDJ cue point question

CDJ cue point question

Yo fams. Quick one on saving cueys on cdjs.. On the 800 I’m under the impression that cue points are stored internally somehow (though maybe written onto the disc?)
and on the 1000 guys insert an sd card which has all of their points.. So, obviously if the 800 stores the points on the unit itself, it’s pretty useless when it comes to using a club system as no points will be saved
OR
if the 800 writes the points to the disc of your track, then they should show up on the 1000? Yes?
If you have any ideas, I would enjoy them.

800 saves cue points for as long as the CDJ is turned on. Turn it off and BAM! they are gone.

^ That is fucking useless. cheers

Seriously I have no idea how cdj’s have been so popular for so long. They literally only have a few basic functions and cost thousands of dollars. This angers me.

Useless? They are excellent, they never break (or rarely) they are easy to use, they can do a thousand things more than the vinyl which they replaced. The cue point issue - DJs are a bit spoilt these days, in the past you had to work on the fly, adding cue points manually as you went, manually selecting loops etc etc you had to work to be better than someone else and being able to do these things gave you a creative edge.

Also the CVDJ 800mk II is about £300 now, a lot less than a CDJ 1000 mk II or mk III, so if you want that level of hardware, like the ability to save cue points to SD etc, you have to pay up for the top level item.

Or just go software and do a lot more for a lot less

Yeah, now. But in the past…

there is an easy fix…

buy 1000’s

Yeah I’ve got a full controller setup, just want the ability to use cdjs when I’m trying to get gigs that hate on bringing gear.
I say useless I suppose comparatively to digital djing. A decent controller and Traktor shits all over a cdj in what you can do. I use two decks and a mixer, I beatmatch and set in/out cues like you would on a cdj. Just about as traditional you can get with Traktor. But with the options I have on my controller compared to the few on a cdj, they’re pretty overpriced.
Build quality is there but pretty limited functionality imo. And the wave form display on most of them are AAWFUL. Horribly archaic compared to the detail of Traktor.
Anyway, end rant.

Who would have ever guessed that things from the past aren’t as technologicaslly competant as things from the future!

I’m still rocking my original abacus man, them calculators are wack!

CDJ 500 first came out in 1990 (ish), that’s 20 years ago. CDJ800s came out in 1998, 12 years ago, trying mixing on a PC back then! Of course things have changed for the better in that time.

It’s not rocket science.

Exactly so why the f**k would a company continue to produce a product without up to date technology? It’s like a car company manufacturing cars without seat belts or airbags ffs. And people buying them because ‘they’re built well’.
CDJ’s are the ones that are wack, sir. Wiggety wack.

well, as has been mentioned, the cdj’s ur mixing on have 12 year old technology… thats why mr pioneer released the 850’s, 900’s and 2000’s in the last year and a bit…you know, to update things.

the cdj800s you have with 12 year old technology aren’t going to update themselves…

They have updated them, several times, you’re the one seemingly obsessing over old tech, you seem a bit confused by all of this, perhaps you should move on, it’s affecting you in a totaly non-positive way, let it go…

Never. I insist pioneer apologize for their lack of foresight and overall gouging. And to boot, I’ve got something in my front pocket for you, why don’t you reach inside my pocket and see what it is.

It’s not that hard to figure out why Pioneer have made different models… it all boils down to budget. If you’re a beginner you’ll generally go for the 400’s, then as you realise you require jog wheel response you’ll upgrade to 800’s, then again as you realise you require more features, such as cue point memory, you’ go for the 1000’s or 2000’s.

Oh and they still manufacture cars without airbags, same goes for electric windows, ABS brakes, air conditioning etc. If you want the extras you gotta pay for em!

what he said

Just to add on to what everyone else said:

the company continues/continued to produce the “product with out of date technology” for so long because people kept buying them.

A bit off topic but didnt want to make a new thread can you use the cue points on a cdj when using timecode??

Nope, you use your controller for that

And people keep buying them because they work, they rarely break and the can be found in clubs across the globe.
