cdj setup or macbook pro?

i think it is buying into the marketing to say that if you are serious about djing you need a mac.

let me preface that i hate using a windows computer for anything else then custom XP installs geared toward dj performance for those programs that just aren’t available in linux. My day to day computer use is on linux machines.

But you do a fresh install, follow the various XP audio tweaking guides, and never connect to the internet with the machine, I would wager this machine in an endurance marathon against a mac.

hardware wise i don’t think there is anything about apples track record that suggests the parts themselves are going to last any longer or that you won’t have a faulty logic board or buggy firewire chip etc.

I’m actually with you on that, it’s just that my current laptop is a little bulky for lugging around to take notes on, the firewire port is broken, and while I’m perfectly fine with windows, all the recording studios I use at uni are completely mac, I’ve gotten used to using macs, and I want one. having a 13 inch mbp would be great for gigging. plus it’s nice to have something that’s more likely to work all of the time.

7/10 times when a PC eats shit, it’s due to the user doing/installing something stupid.

I mean also, having a mbp is wicked surely.

Try watching a movie on a cdj… or use photoshop or whatever

Also, if can mix on cdjs already, as in you dont need to learn, then just use cdjs when you’re playing out. There’s nothing else to learn. No sweat.

Also, you can use one cdj with traktor. just duplicate the song in other deck in internal mode and use the cdj again, no?

Once you get a MBP and traktor though trust me you will want to take it everywhere.

(NB. I am avoiding a mac vs pc debate)

Hey guys.

Really, you cant lose going either route. Ive been doing some research
on laptops as well (still havent gotten mine yet), and I think if that is what
you are leaning towards, then wait a lil bit and check macrumors as mentioned
before. A few of the units also have both 400 and 800 firewire,
so check around, cause you might be able catch a deal on one of these.

On the cdj400 end, there is defintely a lot of promise there. What I didnt realize until very
recently, is that not only does the 400 have hid, but they can also be
used with traktor without the need for a soundcard. The resolution is
16/44, so its lesser than the 900 and 2k units, which use 24/96. But if
you’re using mp3s and/or cd quality tracks, that may be all you need.
