Help me spend 2000 bucks
I’m thinking about buying a DJ only laptop. Without being fanboys, I could use some advice from all you guys.
Macbook Pro:
2.53 GHZ processor
4GB RAM
128GB SSD
1.25"thick
13" screen
Dell Adamo:
2.1Ghz
4GB RAM
256GB SSD
.65" thick-thinner than macbook air
13" Screen
Even windows fanboys would say go with the Mac 
Why though? I truly don’t see the advantage. I love windows and I reallllly love the looks and performance of the Adamo
In my experience, Macs always perform, always are reliable, and that’s why they are basically the standard for computing in the creative arts
mac it, lasts longer than the “dull”. but that one, is pretty noice. just dont be fooled by looks and thinness.

I just heard an interview with Edit from the Glitch Mob. Those guys run 3 lemurs, 2 alesis drum controllers, a trigger finger, ableton live, all on a single macbook pro. If you were on a windows machine I can just think of all of those blue screens trying to run that setup.
^^^I can run all 6 of my MIDI controllers at the same time without a hiccup, just have to use a hub.
I just switched back from Mac to PC mainly because of the massive performance:money ratio. I love Macs, don’t get me wrong, but until I’m really in the “mac bracket” ill stick with PC.
Another huge reason was because of the USB inputs. Ive got 4 dedicated now where i used to only have two.
But this isn’t a mac vs pc thread… If I were in your position I would buy the laptop I got:
and a controller/monitors/monome/launchpad/etc.

just a thought…you might want to consider the lenovo thinkpad t410s as well. imo better build quality than dell and some useful features like liquid resistant keyboard.
Thanks for the input guys! Welllll from what I can see, it seems pretty universal that if you have the money to spend you should spend it on a mac. Less crashing, great customer service, and pretty much the industry standard as far as laptops go.
Word up dude…just sold my Black Macbook and bought a Dell XPS 16 running Windows 7. To be completely honest I haven’t missed my Macbook at all. Win 7 is dope…try it you’ll like it.
1/ If the only purpose of the laptop is mixing with traktor, then I wouldn’t spend $$ for a SSD drive… But if you really want it, then you’ll be happier with a PC (for the moment there is no trim support for mac and performances decrease with time :shoot me: )
2/ If you look around the pro DJ world, most of them use mac (no mac/pc battle please, It’s just a fact). In my opinion, it’s because of useful OSX stuffs (like the ability to boot almost any other mac from an external drive - for exemple)
3/ Mac would be the ‘no brainer’ choice and on the opposit pc would be the performance choice.
4/ My next laptop will be a 15’ because if you have the 4 decks running and you still want to check your playlists or whatever, 13’ is a bit small in my opinion. (If you wonder, it will be a MBP 
)
5/ There is something that can be disturbing on PC >check this thread ; button "FX TYPE" and "ROUTE FX" odd sound
The main problem with DPC is that it’s occuring randomly on certain laptop models… Never heard of this problem on mac.

I just can’t trust Windows.
I have been an MCSE2003 since …2003…and know Windows in and out.
It is just not safe.
It does things, like hang for a few secs without the hourglass showing. This is a state of WHAT IS GOING ON??
Don’t have that with a Mac. If its spinning its wheel…its doing something.
If its not spinning…its fucking WORKING!

Well..thats my feeling anyways.
I know that there are very very stable Windows Laptops and systems, sure.
However, its the fact that Mac’s parts and OS go hand in hand.
Windows boxes and such use a variety of parts from many diff manufacturers. This leads to the quality dip and unreliability.
I got a Mac only about a year ago…and will NEVER EVER use a Windows machine for a performance.
macs don’t crash or stall or any of the likes, windows do …
dude the only thing you listed that drains a computers resources is ableton live. no disrespect but you dont know what youre talking about
i know no one is going to listen, but in 10 years 4 windows machines i have only had a blue screen once and it wasnt the fault of the OS it was the hard drive crapping out on me. the only crashes i have ever experienced were either because i just pushed the cpu way too far into the red with vst synths or i was an asshole using glitchy hacked bootlegs of ableton or traktor.
maybe your bad experiences with windows machines has more to do with all that incest goat porn you torrented? or stealing…
Ok yes if you are just using it for music mac all the way. But, if you use any other reason like work or school mac=spend more money for programs. Also macs are like a car that has no aftermarket part or the only one out there cost a shit ton. Also the fact that they dont have problems is a lie they have hardware problems and fall apart physically but the OS is better i agree.
why not get 2 windows laptops…if one crashes switch over to the other?
I actually have a Dell Studio as of now, but I would be a lot more comfortable if I didn’t DJ on the same laptop that I have EVERYTHING that pertains to school, business, and what not. I’m running Windows 7 right now and love it, I also love OSX and I would be spending the same dough on either comp I want. Def thinking about going to Mac for my DJ’ing
A friend of mine calls his mac his the porn machine, ahaha that’s really the only aspect in my personal experience where mac outdoes pc…If its DJ business only, it really doesn’t matter what you get…But I’m drunk Jester style so what do I know hahah
im a gamer at heart and both my desktop and laptop pcs are far more powerful than normal consumer macs.
also i have owned macs and pcs in laptop and desktop flavours…
my pcs dont “crash” for no reason… if ur an idiot and dont know how to use a computer its not going to always do what u want it to
just because someone tries to run traktor on their pc with 3 and half kilobytes of ram doesnt mean pcs are unreliable..
what does happen occasionally is software crashes… usually resulting from a software error
ive had software crash on both macs and pcs… it does happen on both ppl!!!
in fact just this last week i was at guitarcenter playing with an NS7 on their mac and every 5 minutes ITCH would freeze up and crash…
all in all i would say go with what you like best because either way you go i can guarantee you that something will crash or break and some point
p.s. im not trying to be an asshole i just havent slept in a very long time
