CDJ900's+DJM800 OR tracktor S4?

CDJ900’s+DJM800 OR tracktor S4?

hi i’m currently debating whether to sell my Stanton c304 n c314, djm500 to get the s4 or cdj900’s djm800 (in the long run)

all opinions are wellcome!!!

thanks in adv!

just some thins to consider:

900s look great but they dont have hot cues.

the djm 800 will probably have better effects(not sure never used one) since the ones in traktor are mainly based off of those.

with rekordbox out you can now quantize and pre-organize your tracks so in that aspect both setups are equal

with the cdj you could just have all of your tracks on a usb… no more laptops.

s4 it very well integrated with traktor. not sure how big of a traktor fan you are, but this is what sold me the s4 the most specially the beatjump functionality on the s4.

thanks for your reply i am a huge fan of tracktor lol planning to sync it with ableton as well (similar to the brdge serato+ableton). i’ve read up about the s4 and heard most club won’t allow digital DJ’s..only cdj’s so that’s why i’m reconsidering buying the s4

Can you beatmatch/use CDJs.

yes - Get the s4
No - Get a cheaper pair of CDJs. CDJ 400s can do everything the 900s can, with half the pricetag and only a smaller jogwheel/screen

I have yet to see this happen myself

I have, every week.

If you Can afford The Pioneer setup go for it , no hassel just show up to the club with a usb link the cdjs and thats it ,but with the S4 you have hook every thing up before hand.

S4 all the way cheaper and more powerfull

i dont think he cares about money , the simplicity of the cdjs and djm are easier and like i wrote before its just easire to show up with a usb and some headphones instead of you $1000 laptop and $900 s4.

You mean there is no one playing a gig in your area as digital DJ? Even with just an x1, laptop, soundcard and house mixer? You guys got it rough out there if thats the case.

He means hate with hooking up digital gear. AFAIK, Milwaukee tends to have digital friendly promoters.

ohhh, I gotcah. Had to re-read that.

As an investment cdj 900 djm 800 all the way. This is what you will see is most clubs, even bars. This type of format. Getting familiar with it can really go far. Plus the simplicity of learning to use such system is nice. Traktor s4 is tits though, I’ll give it that. I went cdj 400 and djm 700 after my s4. I did that mostly because I wanted a club familiar format, keep my beat matching skills and mixing relying on my ears, and a more quality feel. After playing on 900s and 2000s, I totally want a pair later down the line. Why did I ditch the s4? I felt for myself the quality was a bit low (my first unit broke and I had to warranty it), and that the whole thing really took the fun out of djing for me, staring at waveforms really made me feel disconnected to the music and the people. That being said when I have to play a gig for 9 hours its my x1, midi fighter, and ipad all the way. But at a respectable club, im straight cdjs, its makes transitions easier from DJ to DJ, and it always works.

If you want to manipulate songs and use effects and other stuff, get s4

otherwise get cdjs

I agree with the CDJs. I don’t understand those of you who say anything less than the 2000s feel like a toy. Haven’t the 1000s and even in some cases the 800s been what the majority of big names have been playing for years? Hell, didn’t the 2000s just come out?

900’s every time.

thank you for all the opinions! i heard something about how u can hook up cdj’s to the s4 too so think i’m gonna go ahead n get the s4 first n along the way get the 900’s

I have 400s, and I can tell you right now 900s are 2000s are a world of differences. 400s are great, but they are not close to the same. THe screen alone is a major upgrade. plus rekord box usage, quantize loops, pin drop in tracks, and cue points on the 2000.

2000s have been out for what like 2-3 years now? So many big names have been on them for at least that if not longer as pio probably had them testing them out too.

I didn’t realize that they were out that long, I haven’t heard about them until recently. Within the past 2 or so weeks in fact.

How about the jog wheels on the 400s compared to the 800s or 900s? The quantize, and cue points are really only relevant when not using software.

The jogs on the 400 are lighter and obviously smaller. They are not weighted the same. That said its perfectly fine for mixing. When you get use to them you learn how far and where they can go. For any type of scratching don’t bother. Too small, plus and I found this out the hard way when some meat pawed bozo got on my 400s he pushed down too hard on the top and cause it to get stuck. So it was in vinyl mode and would not play unless I put it in cdj mode. I eventually fixed it, but it was pretty scary. Anyways, the jogs in my opinion feel better then the 350s, which feel like total crap to me, but to the 800 or 900 they can’t compare. 800 and 900 jogs feel great. 2000s you can adjust the tension on as well.

I don’t use software unless its for a long gig, or a gig where I don’t really care, i.e lots of top 40, or something I don’t want to really play out with.
