I am looking for a way to share files between myself and 2 of my bandmates. I was thinking I should set up an FTP server that we could all access, that way when we make changes to a song we can upload it there so the other 2 can see the changes as well as have a backup of previous sessions. Does anyone know of a low cost solution to this?
I am also open to other ideas that may be easier for us to work with.
Create a Sound Cloud, a different one then you use for your band. Share the password between all your band mates, and allow them to download all the shit from there.
So then you can download, upload, and share all your music files.
I sometimes use MediaFire which also allows me to make folders and put my junk into a folder of my choice for easy organizing. Lots of cool features. There’s also those bignames like megaupload and hotfile but… they have their problems with deleting shit
I didn’t even think of using soundcloud. A benefit to that is we wouldnt need to download anything to preview any changes, but at the same time we can only upload audio.
I like the idea of Dropbox and 2gb seems like more than enough. We could just save all the project files there without having to export anything.
@josh I’ll make a new email for my band account and pm you sometime later today.
Use Torrenting. Just to be clear, I am talking about using a torrent client the protocol and am not referring to illegal torrent sites. The client if a free download at www.utorrent.com, you can x’fer terrabytes of data for $0 and you stop and start transfers without worrying about screwing up a download. It takes a little bit of savvy to get it going but once set up you can create and share torrents in minutes.
If you have a fast upload speed, a computer you can always leave on, and feel comfortable doing it, I would just go with setting up your FTP server. That way you could mix down your tracks directly to the share folder.
Otherwise: Soundcloud, Mediafire, Dropbox…all are good cloud-based alternatives.
