So I know DJ TechTools already has a list of what hardware the Chroma Caps fit on, and how they fit. But I was just wondering if anyone has any photos of Chroma Caps on a Pioneer CDJ/DJM-850-W.
DJTT doesn’t specify whether they fit the 850 Series or not. Thanks in advance.
It was quite easy to do. I bought some knobs with a 6mm splined shaft, and just held each one in my hand (very tightly!) and drilled the splines out with a 6mm drill. Then, wrap a piece of paper around the inside of the knob, so that you can push it onto the shaft of the rotary pot. You’ll get a nice tight fit, and the knob won’t rotate on the shaft.
It would be more difficult with the Chroma’s, though, because they don’t have splines - they have a “D” type shaft. So you’d be removing material from only the flat side of the “D”. That will be hard because the drill will not self-centre.
It could probably be done with a pillar drill and a vice, but you’d have to use very soft jaws to hold the Chroma’s (or protect them by wrapping them in paper first)..
I’ve just read that back and realised how much hard work it would be just for the sake of having some pretty knobs…
Not if I got black or white CHROMA Caps. My setup is in my signature, have a look and if you can imagine it with black or white caps, I don’t think it would look bad.
But looks isn’t all I want them for. Apparently they have a really comfortable grip and feel a lot better than your standard plastic caps and faders.
Get the DDJ-SX. I’m not a Serato user either and way prefer Traktor, but only for the UI really. The SX has way more features and functionality and looks better in my opinion to. I also think Serato probably has a lot better functionality than Traktor does and is more traditional in terms of mixing, I just think it needs an updated UI.
