CHROMA Caps on Pioneer CDJ/DJM-850-W?

So I know DJ TechTools already has a list of what hardware the Chroma Caps fit on, and how they fit. But I was just wondering if anyone has any photos of Chroma Caps on a Pioneer CDJ/DJM-850-W.

DJTT doesn’t specify whether they fit the 850 Series or not. Thanks in advance.

I looked into fitting them to my pioneer djm 3000 and got told it would not work.

they dont fit, the white line will be in the wrong position!

That’s what she said.

Well damn.

Sounds like a job for the ol’ drill 'em and fill 'em technique.

I did this with my UC-33e knobs and it works perfectly…

“Sounds like a job for the ol’ drill 'em and fill 'em technique.”

That’s what she said, too.

Has anybody actual modded the caps to fit diiferently as it something I would be up for doing, from memory the pioneer caps also have a built in stop.

I think its like injected molded. So modding it would be pretty damn hard to fit perfectly without play.

Might make more sense to remove the center line and somehow add a new one in the correct position.

Do you have photo’s of it and how you did it. That would be awesome if you do. Or if you could link me to some instructions on how you did it.

It was quite easy to do. I bought some knobs with a 6mm splined shaft, and just held each one in my hand (very tightly!) and drilled the splines out with a 6mm drill. Then, wrap a piece of paper around the inside of the knob, so that you can push it onto the shaft of the rotary pot. You’ll get a nice tight fit, and the knob won’t rotate on the shaft.

It would be more difficult with the Chroma’s, though, because they don’t have splines - they have a “D” type shaft. So you’d be removing material from only the flat side of the “D”. That will be hard because the drill will not self-centre.

It could probably be done with a pillar drill and a vice, but you’d have to use very soft jaws to hold the Chroma’s (or protect them by wrapping them in paper first)..

I’ve just read that back and realised how much hard work it would be just for the sake of having some pretty knobs…

i wish they would make them for pioneer gear!! i would love to put some on my T1

it’d look like shit anyway

me too! i want to trade my S2 for a DDJ-T1 but i hate the plastic knobs!!!

Not if I got black or white CHROMA Caps. My setup is in my signature, have a look and if you can imagine it with black or white caps, I don’t think it would look bad.

But looks isn’t all I want them for. Apparently they have a really comfortable grip and feel a lot better than your standard plastic caps and faders.

Get the DDJ-SX. I’m not a Serato user either and way prefer Traktor, but only for the UI really. The SX has way more features and functionality and looks better in my opinion to. I also think Serato probably has a lot better functionality than Traktor does and is more traditional in terms of mixing, I just think it needs an updated UI.

Serato functionality definitely doesn’t match Traktor right now.
