With these new macbook pro’s does it make the new models better to buy? with the lower processor speed? or does it really matter because of the update from i5 to i7
Been on the verge of buying one for months now with a 2000 dollar budget and now im even more unsure what to buy. running traktor pro and ableton with vci 100 and midi fighter, audio 4 dj. Can anyone help with these new questions i have about these new macbooks?
just for the record, the processors in all new macs are a lot faster than those in the previous generation. lower clock speed doesn’t imply lower performance.
The key thing here is sandybridge. Think back to the last time intel did this with the Core2Duo. It’s a big enough difference that I don’t think you are getting your money’s worth with the lower models.
Lolwhut? Asus for example has been selling SB-laptops for about a month already, in the N53 series if I’m not mistaken. Other manufacturers have been selling these too, including HP, Dell (recently), and others.
OT: the new CPU’s indeed provide wayyy more bang for your buck than the previous models.
No, there will be no MBP recalls because of this. The SB issues only occur in computers using 3 SATA ports, MBP uses only 2: 1 for the HDD and 1 for the Superdrive.
Macs are over priced. However they are differnt. The operating system is not as well written as windows however it needs to support about 100 differnt hardware configs. Where as windows needs to support probly close to a million
This means apples job is alot easier and produces a more reliable operating system. they are a complete rip off and for any1 not using there computer for live performance I would say avoid them.
However that addded stability matters with live performance. If only NI made Traktor compatible with linux it wouldnt be a massive job either as they allready write for OSX.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM SANDY BRIDGE WITH EITHER A CHIP PHOTO OR A SPEC SHEET. i7 does not automatically mean sandybridge…there is a huge difference, i haven’t looked REALLY hard but i can’t find a cpu chip id anywhere.
I really can’t be bothered to find a specs sheet right now, but yes they really are Sandy Bridge. It’s been announced basically everywhere that the new MBP’s are SB.
Well where is everywhere that is “official”…the only indication that I have seen so far is that apple advertises the logo with the same picture as the box for sandy bridge.
Im sure they are sandy bridge but honestly apple makes it pretty tough to get any idea of what hardware they are running, everything is custom apple this or that.
I just want the hardware models that they use in their computers on their spec sheet.
Not just i7/i5 and a speed.

This is the CPU
Can’t believe apple is that sly with their marketing…doesn’t even have 4 physical cores.
Honestly that just made me not buy a mac, just flat out lies if the one review I read is correct.
Firstly, OS X is better than Windows. It’s the FreeBSD kernel inside, which is superior for sure. It’s better than both Linux & Windows in fact …
Linux for Audio processing seems not a great option IMO. what would it use - ALSA? or Jack, or what - there’s was some new audio architecture … or maybe OSS. It’s a mess on linux, there’s not that good Audio I/O facility for audio processing as CoreAudio & ASIO.
I do agree about the hardware support, though. It’s soooo difficult for MS, and so relatively easy for apple.
