Converting MP3 to Wav... Pointless???

Converting MP3 to Wav… Pointless???

This is probably a stupid question but is there any advantage from converting an MP3 file to Wav? I know Wav files have better quality and I know it’s obvious that an MP3 file will not sound better when converted to Wav.

Only if you wanna put it on disc mate, otherwise no point :stuck_out_tongue:

Alright. Thanks man.

Also if Im not mistaken, it takes less time for programs like SoundForge, Traktor, MIK, PN, etc - to read the file faster since its in an uncompressed format, as opposed to mp3.

True, also when you record in traktor it gets saved as a wav.

What you’re dealing with here is compression vs. memory. Because mp3’s are compressed, your CPU will have to uncompress it. This cause stress on your CPU. While wave is uncompressed, it uses more memory because of its bigger size.
Also keep in mind that the lesser conversions you make on a song, the better quality it is. So if you don’t have to touch it, don’t .

most audio software make a temp wav file that it does the work on, so you shouldn’t have to do it…

I wanted to ask a similiar question, but mine was are:

  • any of you experiencing problems when using .wav’s in Traktor?
  • Leaving files as .wav’s will be ok on system?

I guess for me why I convert to mp3 is for the space issue, but does the bigger file of the .wav slow down processing/cpu load?

I use only Wav’s when I DJ (Psytrance anyways)…

I used a MacBook black and had no issues. (2.0Ghz and 2 GB RAM)

Was flawless!

Space is the only issue.

Got a TB external…so no more tears!

Dude… I just answered that question two posts before yours…
