DDJ-SR white noise

DDJ-SR white noise

Hey guys,
I just received my DDJ-SR back from repairs (broken I/O assembly). But now I’m having another problem. Whenever I turn up the master volume to half or higher I hear white noise (no buzz from electric cables, definitely white noise). This happens at any latency without even any programs using it. When I use traktor with it, I have to set traktor as loud as I can in order to not hear it. When I do it the way I normally do it’s very audible. This is not in any way like it normally operates.

Then I thought maybe there is some outside interference, but my normal million year old Denon amp works fine with a normal cd player with rca connectors, no static at all. Putting my headphones in one of the tr-s sockets also gives the same static.

I’ve tried putting it into a different computer with USB 3.0 instead of my laptop with just 2.0, changing the location of the SR, turning off my laptop+power supply, but nothing helps. I don’t have any capability of checking with balanced cables, my amp doesn’t have those. I’m using a 3m tr to rca cable to connect to my amp. rca to rca on the other output yields the same results.

I’ve had the same problem before, but after getting fed up with it (like now) I waited a day and it went away. Can I try something else or do I have to send it back again? I really don’t want to lose it for another month, my shop and pioneer both take ages to repair the thing. Especially with the holidays around the corner.

Sounds like it’s still broken dude, or the cables are bad, have you tried RCA-RCA instead of the TRS - RCA ?

If changing the cables doesn’t work, don’t think there is anything you can do except send it back again or forcefully request a new unit rather than another, repair, maybe from the place of purchase if still under warranty and depending where you live.

Any time I had such a problem it was either a bad cord or my amp wasn’t grounded properly.
From my experiences that isn’t a software issue but rather a hardware one.

Do you have another set of speakers you can set up on and see if it works(even computer speakers with a RCA splice or wtv so you can hook it up)

I’ve used an rca-rca in the other output of the SR with the same results. I’ve also tried it with my headphones in the actual trs output. I’ll try it with my computer speakers.

EDIT: Computer speakers cannot connect to my SR, I don’t have the proper conversion cable.

Yea, might just be a dud repair too which is really lame but it happens.
I had to put some gear in for repair and was out my dj gear for 9 months.

Always worth while to rent some gear if you need to.

The repair that was done was different from the problem I have now. It’s also definitely the same unit, because it has the djtechtools sticker on it on the exact same place. Renting is not needed, because I also own a Numark Mixtrack Pro II, but I obviously like the SR a lot better.

It just really sucks that you try to make a proper decision on gear, buy something that is not by any means cheap and you have so many problems time after time. It just makes me want to give up, get a cheap-ass toy controller, connect it to my smartphone or tablet and just spin on those the rest of my life.

Who repaired your gear? I would definitely go back and say hey, after I got this back from you, this is now going on! Just because they are unrelated does not mean they didn’t f something up while they had your gear open.

If you’re having the same problem with different gear and running it through the same system(im assuming) then the problem is most likely your system.

The repairs were done by pioneer via the retailer, as it is still under warranty. Different gear through the same system works fine.
It’s really weird, I just tried it again and it seems to be somewhat less right now. Can it be that it was always there and that I just didn’t notice? I mean, if you have a CDJ setup with the master volume of the mixer open, you also hear some white noise. It’s still on a different loudness though.

I run my SR @ 100% on the master a d 50% on the channel gains. There is no perceivable amount of noise via headphones or studio monitors or booth output. Dodgy units happen every so often sad to say and may need multiple returns before the underlying problem is found or unit replaced.

I’ve contacted the retailer again. This time I’ll try to get a replacement, I don’t want to be without the SR for another month. I had to do my regular bar gig with my Mixtrack Pro II and it was a real PITA because it has no filters, gain knobs or VU meters.
