1.5 is great so far for me, the songs load faster and in general the interface seems faster.
batch analysis is pretty hot too.
haven’t messed around with the dvs functionality to see how they have improved that.
Have they added an actual proper midi mapping section yet or can we still only access half of the functions in the program ?
you’ve been asking for awhile, but sadly from what i have seen not yet.
my other grip with DD is no amputate mode yet
what is an amputate mode?
and I had the decadance demo a while back, it seemed to map all available controls no problem in ableton as a VST, I will be buying this next week, have they downgraded their midi support?
it was weird though, it didn’t show parameters in ableton the way other VI’s do, but it still worked fine once you mapped it internally in DD, this was 1.3 several months back.
so you can control both virtual decks with one real deck.
I don’t think that every little midi control is available to be mapped, for example there is a knob on the vci-100 DD template that runs through the playlist, sampler, dvs control etc. I don’t think you can map that.
I mapped buttons to the playlist up/down and load deck a/b, didn’t mess with the sampler at all or DVS though.
Yup there are a lot of midi controls thats are availible for the inbuilt mappings but you cant access them when your trying to do your own midi map. Its actually quite frustrating. You could reverse engineer the layouts to see which one has the midi assignments that you like then use Bomes Midi translator to change some of the functioanlity. That way you get your midi assignments its just more of a pain in the butt to assign them how you like.
I seem to remember an A/B and general control assignment panels, I thought it had everything, I’ll double check in a week or 2 after I get my check.
edit: also was wondering if anyone had the inside scoop on when an AU version would be available, there site says its in development but offers no time estimate.
most of the basic midi setup options are there, but like mentioned DD has chosen to give the specific midi controller mappings more options, which never fairs good in trying to win over the true hardcore midi freaks who are always looking for more control. for example, the dascratch DD template it setup so you can control both decks with one dascratch. they don’t have it designed like that for the eks xp-5, which makes it super hard to setup the eks up to support it without going through the bomes backdoor.
just wanted to give everyone a heads up that there is a known problem in 1.5 with the master tempo algorithm so syncing and beat detection are a little off right now. i guess they are working on it and will post a release in a couple days.
Just out of curiosity, can Decka finally read the ID3 “key” tag? What about the “rating” tag that I use quite heavily?
i think that article should have talked about a couple of more important things: the limited user midi assignment, no amputate or one deck dual control option, and the problem i mentioned above.
If i was someone just getting into the game and looking for the non-traktor/serato route, i suggest djdecks.
can DJ decks work as a VST/AU?
I looked at their site but it didn’t say anything about plugin function so I assume no, but thought I’d ask anyone who has actually used it.
I don’t think so but you could email adion the creator and ask and i’m sure he’ll get back to you about it.
just an update that they released a patch and fixed the problem i described in the above post.
works great, been using deckadance as a vst in ableton running bento’s new smartmixer. a eks xp-5 controls DD and a korg nanokontrol plus bomes pro control ableton and makes for a very fun package.
another update came out today, we are at 1.5.3, and just wanted to let people know that the 20% off is back in effect, not sure how long this time.
I was really close to purchasing 1.5 for a relative of mine who has a DJ Control MP3 controller but Image Line’s support folk will not help you with configuration problems unless you’ve purchased a license (in summary, the actual problem is that I can’t get the controller’s LEDs to work though Image Line says that they indeed do).
I can sort of understand this policy but what takes the cake is that you also cannot post on their forums unless you purchase a license (you can register for an account and read the posts, however). So not only won’t their support folks help you but you also cannot reach out to the user base and ask for help there.
That is an interesting position to take when you are trying to compete with the Traktor and Scratch Live.
