Denon DN-SC2000

Denon DN-SC2000

Im thinking of picking a Denon DN-SC2000. Just wanted to see if theres any owners here of this unit and if its any good? Thanks.

Respect.

I have 2 and love them. Only complaint I have is that I wish the FX & Filter knobs were smooth instead of notched rotary but it doesn’t affect the mix, just a tactile preference.

Yeah i agree with sir real on this.

I like mine…

Have a buddy with sausage fingers that thought they might be a really awesome alternative to just using cdj (I might have planted that seed)

He totally hates them… But then again, the way he plays, i.e. never using sync because he doesn’t beat-grid manually (cause he could care less about sync, he was really just looking for a CDJ “analogue” with a software/midi controller combo) as well as having large fingers that knock the tempo fader when pitch bending on the platter, they really are not right for him…

Should really just stick to burning CD’s.

That link made my night.

for the same price more or less as an X1 it blows it outta the water (IMO), more controls and a better layout

If this is your only controller I’d go for an X1, but I do really like the Denon.

I’d say it really depends on where he’s coming from. If he’s a former CDJ user and wants to keep using a touch sensitive jog wheel then the Denon. If he wants to go strictly the “controllerist” route using sync then the X1 might be the better choice. Either one is a great controller IMO.

Thanks to all for replying.

My current set up is 2 1200’s, DJM 600 (same setup for the last 13+ years) and X1, I use the X1 mainly for efxs and to browse thru my library in Traktor. I’m just looking to try something new.

With the Denon you can still beatmatch the “oldschool” way with the jog wheel or if you find you’d rather tightly beatgrid your tracks and just use sync then you can always reassign the touch sensitive jog for FX manipulation. I came from turntables & cd decks and felt almost no learning curve from my older cd decks to using the Denon’s. If you get a chance to play with one before buying, I’d recommend it as all the opinions are really just that. It’s all very subjective and one persons preference is another’s annoyance.

I don’t really see the point in a DN SC2000 if you’re using a dvs since the real advantage of it is that you can beat match on it… But your turntables will already do that…

Seems hes trying to do the same thing with different equipment, and two less RCA’s to hook up.

It’s hardly something new. It’d be doing exactly the same with with less tactile hardware.

But a much smaller footprint.
I have x2 DNSC2000s and they serve me well and have had no serious issues with them during gigs. However the Pitch Faders are a little wonky until a firmware update is released as perthis thread. Also, TP had issues with LED feedback/crackles but this was fixed in the latest version (TP2/TSP2). Otherwise, they are solid, heavy with quality components–though I hate the notched FX rotaries.

Agreed on ALL points.

Sounds like the new firmware shouldn’t be that far off…

crosses fingers

I got the same feeling as you guys.

By the way, anybody has seen or read if it is possible to switch the effect’s knobs for stepless ones ?
I did some research but didn’t find anything concluding.
That’s the most boring thing to me on this controller…
In fact i even prefer to use my old BCD3000 to control effects.

I was just looking to minimize my set up when I play at my friends art gallery.

I will probably end up looking into that at some point…

Was talkin’ to my pops about it, and as long as I can get him the exact manufacturer and part number of stepped encoder that is in the DN-SC2000 currently, he is 99% certain he can find a step-less encoder that will work as a drop in replacement (definite soldering required).

I am extremely interested in doing this, so when I find the manufacturer/part number that will work I plan on making a new thread, and fully documenting the modification.

I have not opened the controller, yet. But it seems to be relatively straightforward.
