Anyone going to DEMF this year? Aka next week… What are you most excited about hearing there? Between all the stages and the afterparties there’s so much going on it’s overwhelming; I’m basically doing a spreadsheet of all the stuff I want to hear.
DEMF doesn’t exist anymore, as it is now called Movement. But yeah, I will be there.
Not nearly as mind-boggling as WMC week, as there are really only 2 or 3 different afterparties to choose from each night/morning.
As for the festival… we never really plan anything. Try to check out the favorites, and definitely some new acts. Made in Detroit stage is a MUST each day.
Afterparties: Friday we will probably just bounce around town. Saturday night / Sunday morning is Cirocloco. Sunday night is Life and Death followed by the Dissolute party and Visionquest party Monday morning. We finish things off with Hot Creations Monday night.
I’m most excited to see Noisia, Andy C, Hatcha, Dave Clarke, GRiZ, Grammatik and DJ Godfather.
I’m getting too old for the after party scene, but I’ll be checking out the free AK1200 show on saturday night. Fun fact: Bert’s on Broadway, the location of the AK1200 party, is located at 1315 broadway. 1315 Broadway was the location of the legendary club The Music Institute, one of the most important locations in the early years of detroit techno.
There’s a few more than that - I’m having a hard time keeping track of which all I want to go to but so far I have tix to CircoLoco Saturday, No Way Back sunday, and Endgame Monday. Also going to try to check out the Ultimate Chicago/Detroit thing and Direct Contact.
And yeah there’s more going on at WMC but the music (and people!) is pretty much the same at a lot of those; I’m far happier to be going to Detroit this year. Not that I would have minded another week in Miami of course
Yeah last year I actually did the Techno History Bike Tour and that was one of the stops. Highly recommended way to learn about Detroit techno history!
skipped WMC this year so we could hit up movement. WMC has been horrible the past few years. The lineup at movement is amazing.
Most excited for Andy C and Masters at Work but the lineup is so solid on every stage.
Hardly any cookie cutter generic U.S festival acts.
They just announced VIP Boiler Room stage lineup for SUnday with Hawtin, Magda and a few others too.
Just gonna wing it for the afterparties. I have 15 people headed out with me so there was no way we’d all agree on which ones to hit up.
I tell myself that I’m going to make it every year, but never do, last time I went to DEMF it was still a free event. A couple of my buddies are playing the Dub City party at Big City, but that’ll probably be the closest I get to the festival.
This will be my 5th consecutive year. Really looking forward to it. The lineup is great, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to Digweed. I don’t expect him to sound the way he did years back, but that’s kinda a bucket list item for me.
