DJ Xfactor [the official thread]

DJ Xfactor [the official thread]

I just came accross this X-Factor for DJs: Simon Cowell's new global TV show revealed | News | Music Week. personally i think that this could be yet another excuse for those who have no talent to buy a laptop, crack traktor and attempt the art we call djing by playing the latest rihanna or david guetta tune!

What do you think?

i think its kinda BS, we’ve all seen these shows and the fan-base that comes with them. they should call it DJ Drama-thon

i wonder how much the sale of dj gear will go up before the show airs… time to try and jump on the bandwagon!

Absolutely ridiculous!!

The statements from Cowell are even better:

“will capture the incredible rise of the DJ phenomena” …what, incredible over the last 30 to 35 years?

“DJ’s are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show”

Moron, I hate shit statements that show no idea of the industry and history!!!

How would this even work? Would they have categories for styles of mixing?

THere’s going to be loads of wanky Guetta wannabes. No true representation of what we do.

This going to go the way of DJ hero, hopefully and Cowell will sink miserably in bankruptcy (Edit - i know this is hopeful but a guy can have dreams) he is a parasite and needs to wind it in!

If it includes music production I’d be interested in watching. I think it would be cool if they said “This week you’ll be producing the track for a new hip hop artist/Gaga song/soda commercial”, then you have to go up and perform it. It would show the true versatility of the producer rather than you can mix the most creatively.

if its on a saturday night it will be another reason for the masses not to go out to a club and to stay in and veg their lives away on the couch

the beauty of there being loads of wanky guetta wannabes is that it spreads interest in dj’ing to a commercial market.

a commercial market attracts investors and innovators that previously never existed. providing products to all and sundry.

I can never get my head around why people think the thing they’re interested in isn’t allowed to be an interest for someone with different musical tastes, or for someone who wants to commercialise and market it.

None of the above will ever force me to listen to a wanky guetta wannabe, or make me watch a dj’ing xfactor. Nor will it stop me from enjoying what I enjoy.

If Mr Ean Golden gave that a shot, he’d win it hands down. Why would he degrade himself though. As for Mr. Cowell, this won’t get far on the box. If it does, then an outrage will happen, nit just from us but about 100% of the Dance Music culture.

true, but it also saturates the market meaning that the supply of djs outweighs demand, meaning it is a buyers market, we all know that a majority of bar owners dont care about the skill of a dj, as in most commercial clubs and especially bars it is cost that they are interested in and are quite blinkered when it comes to the real cost or return on investment you get when spending extra on a good dj

@dafe - I’m all for opening these things up to a wider market and would never be the one trying to hold these things back to investment and production. As you see from what I said after is that it wouldn’t be a true representation of what we do.

If Cowell adopts the Xfactor style of programme then all it will be is a winner being pedestal’d to front a wave of commercially viable tracks like they do with the singing version.

I wouldn’t say that any of the people that have come off the Xfactor (singing) conveyor belt have benefited music or added anything new to the scene which is exactly the way I see this going. They have just churned a lot of cash for Cowell and not a lot else.

I suppose I’m just reiterating that my main beef is the way that Cowell has jumped on this and suck some money away from the people in the industry that generally have worked hard for it instead of extreme amounts of money going into marketing this specific show and his specific product.

Just sayin.

I’m just wondering how they expect to showcase 2 minutes mixes and what good that will do?

it would have to be dmc style routines only i guess because theres no way they are going to make someone sit through 30 min to 2 hour mixes for every dj on that show.

So what you’re saying is it will be exactly like a dance music festival, except on TV?

Just kidding (kind of), I see your point, but this is how market forces work in the grand scheme of things, and unfortunately Cowell has it all figured out :disappointed:

True say unfortunately :disappointed:

Oh For The Love Of Humanity can we not just ignore this.

It_does_not_affect_us.

It will go away as quickly as it came.

I want to enter it!!!

I just want the opportunity to play some Limewax/Dylan/Panacea/Current Value devilstep on TV.

It will go away i’am sure but it still bothers me a little…at least its not as bad as shows about being a chef or cooking

Hey I like Iron Chef, Top Chef and Chopped. I think those are the only competition reality shows I watch..

i love this!

I think the main problem with this is simon cowell’s usuall audience don’t appear to be even slightly interested in DJ’s, they just want the next one direction or susen boyal.
