DJ'ing my friends party

DJ’ing my friends party

I am DJ’ing a buddy of mines party and he wants me to play some different type of music such as hip hop, oldies, slow music, party music. I have no idea for any type of slow music and or oldies. It is may 4th so i have some bit of time to prepare. Any ideas would be awesome. Thanks all!

step 1. download spotify
step 2. search “classic 90s songs”
step 3. …
step 4. PROFIT!

House parties are an odd beast. Generally groups of friends like the same music, so just find out what everyone likes before hand if you want an advantage. The best house parties are the ones where nothing is planned, so this whole “slow music and oldies” thing may be your friends idea of a hilarious slow dance game, but when you get a house full of people tanked up, there’s no way you’ll get them to do something like that.

In my experience, anyways. But maybe British house parties are different to American?

Absolutely this.

You know I have spotify and never even thought about that. Thanks a mill

You can always ask for a list of favorites and must plays from whoever’s throwing the party. even a short list can point you in the right direction.

Children, oldies are not classic 90s songs. Oldies are from the 50s-70s. From what I unfortunately have come to realize, 90s count as retro.

I will not accept what i grew up listening to as oldies just yet :stuck_out_tongue:

Lmao…classic 90s as oldies hahahahahahahahahaha!

replace 90s with 50s and delete your post. who cares. he got the point.

You don’t care because you were born in the 90s or 2000. I care because I grew up in the 90s and it’s not oldies hahaha but yes, I think OP gets the picture.

There was some great music in the 90s though… that was 20 years ago… so almost in classic status

Is there a way to hook up spotify with my cdjs 2000 NXS ? or djm 2000? I know im going to get requests and i will be generous enough to play the music for them. Or is it not possible?

just bring a laptop and play a youtube playlist

If you bring a spare laptop / iPad / anything with spotify on, you can run it through a spare channel on the mixer

Depends on the mood of the party at the time. I’ve had people ask me to play their crappy old slow classics and hip hop but i never usually do because everyone is usually buzzin at the parties i do. Tip: If you want to play hip-hop rap stick to the classics everyone knows, chances are if you play artists like Kendrick Lamar, ASAP Rocky and Juicy J you will kill any dancefloor you had and will remain with 5 white guys who think theyre requests are what everyone wants to hear and dance to. Know from past experience :stuck_out_tongue: just stick to what everyone knows when it comes to old and rap music.

this. i have my ipad that i run thru my extra channel on my s4 and if its a house party, ill do them a favor, but if its a club, i dont even bother getting a song i dont have.

This is all very relative. Maybe you’re just biased… or maybe you’re just DJing partys with a bunch of old people, cause ASAP, and Juicy J, and Kendrick Lamar are played in all the major clubs.

I’m not djing to old people haha, here people would prefer to listen to House than Rap at house parties and clubs usually. Some Rap is good, but i find kendrick, rocky or juicy j kinda mellows the energy a bit.

Hmm I have to figure out how to do this. Its not really a gig i just need to have some music going ya know? Thanks all for the replies

Yeah its a mix crowd mostly older folks. I cant have no cursing lol

its not hard at all. what controller/mixer do you have. all you need is an 1/8th inch audio to RCA from your ipad or ipod. plug the RCA into line in for your mixer.

I have djm 2000 and mac. I will try it now. Thank you very much will come back if i run into any problems.
