to be fair , i think by “sask” you meant regina… The saskatoon scene is alive and well and moving forward.
respect from my peers (old guys) is usually about the car you drive and local you live, so no real respect for DJing. When I was younger people always thought it was about getting laid, so that’s not really respect either. Never really thought about it to be honest though. Like a recent interview I read from that guy from the stooges telling artists if they are worried about money quit the music business.
I agree with this pretty strongly. Not to say that you shouldn’t play to your crowd, but if your simply A to Bing records that they have heard a million times over, they aren’t going to think of you as anything more than a human iPod.
I was just going to say this. Every time I’ve played in Stoon I’ve had a blast. I’m going to be moving there for a few months in January, which I am really looking forward to.
Well I shouldn’t talk about sask scene as I really don’t go out… That said In a small town… But I’d love to be involved a bit in SASK scene but a family life makes it hard to justify full involvement… My stance has been I’d be open to monthly going ons… Hell izn been trying to get me into city for some time now one of these days I’ll have to hit up hookah lounge and then should hit up gabbos on Thursday sometime…
I’ve been playing a lot of what I call authentic trance lately as in the 136-142 range.. I also have been actively digging for newer prog coldharbour style been somewhat successful lately will need to find time to do a true prog to epic trance set sadly I’ve only had an hour or so lately to do a mix in and need at least 2 hours

For what it’s worth, the sound isn’t totally dead…just changed…and slower.
The anjunadeep stage at Tomorrowworld was bumpin’. It really made me want to dig out some of my older proton stuff and record a mix. Also, I keep stumbling on random “techno”, “deep house”, and “breaks” tracks that have that feeling…except they’re all like 125-135.
Still…if we’re thinking the same kind of vibe, we should set up some kind of an online “vs” mix in the next few weeks.
Sadly a lot of promoters feel that more DJs mean more guests and so on so I see a lot of nights crammed with DJs. It’s not right.
IDK…maybe it’s just what I’ve been reading lately, but I’m convinced that there are ways to do anything you want, at least in the short term.
Actually making the time to do it and having the dedication to make it happen, that’s harder.

This. Nights round my way are getting silly. There’s this one event coming up that I’ve seen the flyer for, 10 DJs on the bill but the bar is only open for 7 hours…
That’s insane, but completely believable. I understand why promoters do it and I appreciate all the work they do to put on nights, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t like longer set times. For those of us who get to travel once in a while, it’s not uncommon to spend your entire day getting to a gig to only play an hour haha 
Here is Cape Town, I have played at the larger PsyTrance outdoor festivals (Clubs too) and there is a style of Psytrance for the time of day. If you play a certain style of Psy, you get booked to perform at the time it should be played. That being said, I too would not just play what everyone else is playing. I would try and source new tracks (unreleased) that have not been heard and EDUCATE the crowd on them.
That worked for me, really well. However it is pretty much what we all do. Psytrance shelf life is REALLY short. So you pretty much HAVE to play new stuff all the time.
If you just stood there AB’ing, you would not get as a good reaction as when you put some energy into it and worked it!
I always got a load of respect here.
I was one of the first to use a Controller at these festivals (VCI100 Arcade) and I did get a lot of jeers but once I rocked the slot and really when to town with it, I got the respect of my fellow DJ’s.
The crowd did not really see what i was playing on, so they just into the music…not what you using.
Playing Live with my mates Dubstep outfit, I used TT’s Mixer and Controller and the gear was what the crowd liked (the scratches too) but the technical effort put into it, is what got the other performers respect.
Crowd wise, I usually got respect at these gigs. Playing at private birthday’s and other gigs where a mix of genres was on the cards, not so much. I found that very hard to get right.

Our outdoor festivals are usually an hour or 3’s drive and to get there and play an hour is shitty.
I can understand the frustration of folks traveling even further!
Welcome to the ADD Generation past are the days of 4 hour time slots… When I did Internet radio streams back in early 2000 my sets were normally a minim of 2 hours and average 4 hours with lots in the 5-6 hour range
It’s actually insane how popular he is. I think these days, besides guys like Carlo Lio, Nathan Barato & The Junkies, he’s the most notable name in the house music scene from this city. His energy behind the decks is unmatched, no one pulls off their shirt and starts head banging behind the decks at 6am quite like him. It seems very few people know he’s from Saskatchewan too.
I’ve been to a number of sets with 3+ hour slots for DJs. Granted, it was pretty much only the headliners…and some of them weren’t exactly legal…and went on until well into the next day. But it does happen…just not at mainstream clubs.
Could you spin that for more than an hour?
Oh mainstream shit God no I’m lucky if I can tolerate it for more then 45mins… I do agree I have seen lots of 4 hour sets in my time but haven’t in a long time… Last time I saw a nice long set was back in 2007 was from 10-2 and was a pretty legit trance set was also a headliner in a packed sold out club in Houston so yeah…
