doing edits so they don’t compromise the bitrate?
so i wanna start doing some edits of some songs, but i want to be able to edit these songs without ruining the bitrate. right now i’m using audacity with huge wav files i’ve ripped from cds, but some of i’d also like to edit some of my mp3s that are a 320 bitrate.
so if i open audacity with a 320 and render the file i create as a 320 is it still 320? will the file loose some info? etc…
You just never know with decoding and encoding mp3s since encoding and decoding algorithms vary from software to software… a good test would be to just listen to it through a good pair of speakers after the edit… I don’t mean that in a condescending way, but if it sounds ok to you it’s probably fine…
MP3 Direct Cut is a tool that allows you to edit, splice and cut up MP3s without decompressing them. It might be applicable to your situation.

Edits to compressed MP3s can only happen at the frame level, so you don’t get the precision of a full editor (each frame holds a fraction of a second’s worth of music)
