Ears ringing for almost 24 hours...

Ears ringing for almost 24 hours…

Random thought but i’m bugging out…
Went to see David Guetta stand on a stage and act like he was djing while clearly not and the sound system was extremely loud. Way louder than any other event i’ve ever been to.
my ears have been ringing since i walked out at 3am. it’s not 5 pm the next day and my ears been ringing since. i’m freaking out.
Should i be?

Re: Ears ringing for almost 24 hours…

It will go away, being in that loud of an environmemt for a long time your ears adjust and think that the huge system is “normal”. Your ears will readjust

There’s you problem.

Seriously though, I’ve had that before, start worrying if its the same tomorrow.
And to be fair Guetta puts on a good show if you can be open minded about the whole affair.

Always make sure to keep your ears safe!!!

If it persists go and see a doctor.

In the mean time, stay away from any loud, persistent noises.

I’ve got Tinitus and wish I knew way back when what I know now.

I’m 50 and will have to live with a constant high pitch tone in my ears for the rest of my life.

On the whole it’s manageable, but there are times when it comes to the fore and is downright annoying.

Such times are bed time, when it is really quiet, and when I talk about it such as now!

Fully aware of what i was walking into. Took my girlfriend if that even justifies it.
Sad thing is he used to actually dj and be pretty good.
his set up was.
3 CDJ’s and a mixer plus some other stuff i couldn’t see.
2 of the cdj’s did nothing when he touched them. he’d act like he was cueing up the next track while that next track was already coming in.
He then would fiddle with the mixer and nothing changed in the sound at all.
BUT then he goes over to his right and theres a box deeper in the booth that you couldn’t see. When he touched that, twice the entire night, he adjusted the music. It was really frustrating to see him just straight fake it.

Oh man I feel for you, is this from DJing or just going to see DJs?
I would have thought you’re only as risk if you’re at it nearly every night (like a professional DJ) but then I don’t really know. Not sure if all the big time pros even protect their ears?

It’ll be too late then.

Now is the time to start wearing ear plugs at gigs/clubs. I wish I’d done it.

Tinnitus is fucking horrible.

I started Dj’ing back in 1977 when things like protecting your hearing weren’t thought about.

Over a period of 27 years, mostly 5 nights per week, my ears were obviously subjected to high levels of noise both from the P.A.system and my headphones.

Nowadays I think all the pros use custom ear protectors.

If you’re not using them, you should.

You can’t put a price on your hearing and you cannot cure or treat Tinnitus in any way.

Once you have it, you have it for life.

This times 1 million

Did he have his piano?

I wish my ears still rang after events.

Now if they do, I’m REALLY surprised.

But, 11 years of going to shows constantly and not knowing the first about ear protection for the majority of that time will do that to you.

GET HEARING PROTECTION! (Don’t end up like me. My wife’s already complaining about how I’m going to be deaf when I’m older)

Definitely mate, specially if in the scene that much.

I saw Avicii a month ago. It took 3 days for my ears to completely stop ringing. Next time, bring some earplugs (I know I will). Its worth the goofy look to keep your hearing down the road.

im only 20 and i get slight minutes of solid tinitus in my ears, from gigging for the last 2 years + going to gigs for the last 4, for the last year ive worn my plugs to every gig i attend to and i still get it just as bad.

Wish i listened when i was younger to wear plugs, worst thing is, i own plugs that you cant actually see unless you physically take a look IN my ear

Best $12.95 you could spend as a DJ…

Or…if you are serious about your hearing…find an audiologist and get fitted with these. I’ve been wearing them for about a year at gigs…night and day difference. I use the 15dB filter in mine. It was about $180 for the pair…and worth every penny. I only wish I’d found these 10 years ago, when I still had some high frequency hearing left.

Better late than never, I guess…

It blows my mind to see just how many so-called “DJs” are ignorant of this kind of thing. If you hear ringing in your ears, it’s a sign that you’ve incurred permanent hearing damage. It’s completely possible that the ringing in your ears will not go away, even if it’s your first time hearing it.

Events like the one OP attended regularly push sound levels far beyond suitable listening levels (obviously), to the point where permanent hearing damage can happen in minutes. Here’s an article that illustrates just how easy it really is:

It’s funny how many people know so little about their hearing. There was a time when I didn’t know either, of course. I used to go to a lot of shows when I was a kid. My hearing would be fucked every time and eventually it got to the point that I noticed the ringing hadn’t gone away. Only then did I start researching, and by then it was way too late.

Now, the ringing is generally audible over everything. Fortunately, I’m better at dealing with it than a lot of people seem to be, but it’s still not exactly fun, and it’s a constant reminder that my hearing will never be anything like what it once was.

I wish people would get serious about their hearing and educate those who aren’t. It’s very easy to protect your hearing. The ER-20s posted above are a good example of this… cheap as shit and they significantly reduce sound levels. People seem to put so much effort into protecting other parts of their body… why not their ears? To me, there aren’t a lot of things more important at this point than my hearing. I imagine many people on this forum would say the same thing.

^ epic first post!
Thinkin i might go get some earplugs…thanks for the education guys

Think about it this way, your ears are the most expensive piece of dj gear you own (and you got them for free). Rather then buy another controller or something, spend the 2-300 for custom ear plugsand protect the gear you literally could not dj without. That cdj 2000 or xone db4 are paperweights if you can’t hear

I’m 20 and I have tinnitus. I’m having an MRI scan in March to see if anything can be done about it. Fuck.
