EKS Otus??
im thinking of getting an otus or possibly 2? wat are you guys thoughts?
is it good or is there something better in that price range that i dont know of?
Nice innovative device. A few big name are using them now too. Personally i’d get two as apparently its a bit fiddly controlling two decks with just the one. there are some reviews on pootube if you haven’t checked those out already.
And they look da bomb!!

It’s not a cheap product in digital DJ-land, but it’s still highly accessible compared with turntables and CDJs.
I think you can get two of them for just over the price of one cdj-1000 here. About $1200NZD each.
About the same (in relative value) in real money here in the UK
so about 5 pound huh
I think the money in NZ is just as real (teehee) just a different colour and with a nice picture of Sir Edmund Hilary on the Fiver.
I have one and I’m very pleased with it. I bought it second hand of Ebay for about half the retail price. The platter is very good, as is the layout and ability to control two decks. The sound card produces nice warm tones too. I wouldn’t recommend a single deck for a hip hop/scratch DJ, as it does take a little time to get your head round how to use it. It does work very well for house/techno etc.
The only real downside is the fiddly, inaccurate pitch control. I have assigned it to one of the corner jog wheels (which are fantastic, by the way) and turned off the pitch ribbon all together. Some of the touch sensitive buttons are overly sensitive too.
These minor problems will be addressed when the new Otus Raw comes out. It has real buttons and pitch fader (It will not have the excellent Burr Brown sound card though). I emailed EKS recently and they are wary of setting a time of release for the Raw, they just said some time towards the end of the year. It should also be significantly cheaper than the Otus.
Damn EKS punks never replied to my email regarind the OTUS Raw’s. But glad to hear they are still planning to release it after all, but from previous experiences with the Otus release date “End of the year” mite turn into Q3 of next year =P. They are laggers FFS
