Experienced Dj Beat-matching Problems In Traktor Pro
Hi I have been DJ’ing for a long time and know for a fact I can DJ but was lately worried of my beat-matching within traktor. I have had it for nearly 2 years now and have had this problem some time. Anytime I use pioneer cdj’s or my technics I can beatmatch perfect. However since one of my technics pitch benders have went I have been using purely midi controllers for making mixes in traktor. Problem is I haven’t been doing a good job of it even after beatgridding the tunes. One of my friends even commented on it before and this is me altering the tempo bend etc. This problem only really occurs during trance with the beats. I mean its synced perfectly and good and then next thing a few beats are out then its tight and fixed next thing you no its straying ever so slightly again and can never be fixed. It’s almost like I am at begginer mode again though its only ever in Traktor with midi controllers. I thought it was the end of my days until I noticed I never had this problem when playing on cd’j’s/technics without using traktor and just normal vinyl/cd’s.
I have been told it could be something to do with the latency but not too sure. Have somehow deleted my manual or I would have been straight into that but it’s gone beyond annoyance and has got to the point of me not wanting a S4 now because of it.
Is this a latency problem?? And if so how can I fix it?
I Could be i am not too sure at all. I mean it sounds fine when I do it internally and match the beats up while the crossfaders in the middle and doesnt go astray. Just need to see what it is causing this so I can fix it asap
The beatgridding is fine etc because I try it when it in internal mode with nothing externally plugged into my laptop.
I did alter the Audio Latency and it does seem to be working… However how do I make sure and know that I am putting my audio latency at the best level??
Mine is at 44.5ms on a Macbook just. I want to know how I can set it to its best setting instead of playing the guessing game. I think I had it at 11.5 before though
I agree with the latency - It should definitely be as low as possible without crackling. Try setting the latency super low.. around 8 ms and see if it crackles under high strain. if it does move up 1-2ms and repeat. latency = how resposive it is and probably is the main difference between CDJs/vinyl and digital mixing!
At 44.5 , it is nearly impossible because of the lag between the controller and your response with anything below 10 should be fine. And if you are using windows there are quite a lot of drivers from other apps than increase a lot the latency so the real one is not the one you set up at traktor
