Extracting from 5.1

Hey.

I’ve been reading in some of the forums that you can extract channels from 5.1 mixes (eg. in the DM forum). I assume you get the vocals from the center channel? I really don’t know how these are mixed.

Anyway - here’s the question. What software do you use to extract channels from 5.1 audio? Can Soundforge do this? Maybe through a plugin? Or can you do it inside of Ableton Live?

I appreciate any pointers you can give me.

Audacity should be able to. vocals are usually on the centre channel, although sometimes it’s along with bass / drums / lead guitar.
