Good Sh!t man. good luck, make sure you pre-stage with a couple of shots (dont get sh!t faced), rock the crowd, f@ck taking request (only if it make sense with what ur playing) and remember to mix like there is no tomorrow…oh wait! dont over do it with fx’s!
Taking requests are fricking essential. It’s not hard being a DJ standing there playing the stuff you think is cool. You aren’t half as good as you think until you’re actually able to take the requests, incorporate them in your mixes and make it truly awesome.
Don’t forget, you are working for the dancefloor, not the opposite!
It all depends at what kind of club/event you are playing at.
I only go to/play at “up front” clubs or events. This meens that I want to hear new and interesting music. I want to be inspiered by listening to other DJs. I for shure dont want to hear music that I and everybody else allready knows. If that was my thing, I could just turn on the radio or any other mainstreem platform.
Therefor, let the DJ do his thing and play what he (probably) has prepared for days. Dont just settle for what you already know. After all, the easiest thing in the world for a DJ, is to just play the beatport top ten, or classics from the last decade (which is exactly what the people requesting will be looking for)!
yea I feel ya, Its a club event through my booking agency. Like its gonna be a artist performing then me. So I don’t think I will be taking request but I got my hard drive I will mainly be playing edm but if someone request a top 40 I think I can add a mash up in there to spice things up.
Also I can’t take advantage of a free bar cause I am only 20 drinking age in America is 21. But I got friends in low places lol
I understand that taking request is a must. but just cuz I play @ a 80’s club doesnt mean im going to play michael jackson - beat it, unless its halloween and im playing thriller!
Congrats. I’d get smashed if I were u. I play way better drunk.
Also, I disagree about requests… I hardly get requests… I don’t play at those kinds of places, but when I do I usually just say I’ll take a look and see what I have. I think you need to have a good vision for your set. Feel the crowd doesn’t necessarily mean take requests and play what that one person wants to hear. Sometimes people don’t know what they like until they’re dancing to it.
