I’ll be dj-ing for 2 hours in front of an expected crowd of around 200. I’ll be going from 10-11 and then ill be spinning again from 1-2. The times are weird because i’m going on with a couple of friends and we split it up evenly like that so we could all have a taste of the peak hours
Equipment will be 2x CDJ1000 and a DJM 800
Wish me luck
Music is all house, progressive house, some dubstep but only light
yes all good pointers, have fun be chilled and don’t just don’t get wound up with yourself if you think something is not perfect! trust me most times people won’t notice like you do
been there done all of these, just approach it as calm as you can and you will love the buzz!
I’ll post up the photos later. I was spinning mostly house and electro and stuff like that and I got a lot of requests for hip hop and RnB. So ANNOYING because I didn’t have many songs burnt on to my CD’s for those kinds of songs so it was kind of a bummer. But people still danced their asses off (when drunk )
Also, unfortunately there was another party going on at a club that took some of our crowd away but in all it was a pretty awesome event
Minor hiccups:
Turns out our organizer got CDJ 800’s instead of 1000’s. Not too big a deal just some small things we were counting on weren’t there but it was fine in the end
Drunk people. Someone hit the loops button when dancing and the song went to shit.
Before we started up, a CDJ wasn’t working. It was just rejecting discs. Our tech genius turned it off and on and it worked. Took us 30 minutes to figure that one out
The CDJ (or CD’s. Not sure which one) messed up the song’s audio in the middle of mixing and it seemed like it lost all volume and lost all bass. Quickly switched out of it and got the MC to spew some shit
The house lights were randomly turned up and kinda killed the mood. People kept asking us to turn off the lights but we couldn’t control that. Eventually they were turned off again but it was really random
We had no monitor speaker. The closest speaker was on the other side of the room so it was pretty hard to mix because the bass was kind of hard to hear.
Lessons learned the hard way. It was an awesome night dj-ing with some friends.
