So I give this kid one of my demo CD’s, he loves it.. says how he likes the mix and how nice everything was put together.. yadda yadda
He asks me what turntables or cdj’s I use, and I told him I don’t .. I use a hercules rmx with traktor, .. he then says, “Uh, I don’t think I can have that, that’s not dj’ing, that’s - to be honest- garbage…” than he goes on to SHOW me how he beat matches with his cdj’s pitch faders adds to the ‘performance’.. So I jump on his kit, and beat match something within seconds and tell him ‘i use pitch faders too sometimes, but not when I’m using 4 decks, I can just be more creative that way - I’m not a robo-dj with this stuff’ …
He then says again, ‘that’s not dj’ing’ - .. heh, his loss. Wouldn’t of known the difference if I never told him.. - I already had tons of people ready to come out tomorrow to see me at his club since last time I was in there, there was about 10 people there not even paying attention to him. haha. Now most of us are just going downtown Fort Lauderdale to get sloppy on our own terms, and end up having a house party where I’m free to play my ‘garbage’ all night. That narrow minded blankety (god I wish I could curse like hell) blankety blank blank blank!!!
He’s whack and he doesnt even know it. I would understand If I walked into the club with a CRT monitor & Desktop PC & a mouse. And I had to splice my rca to play in mono. Then he would have room to trash my setup.
Easiest way to deal with a controllerism hater is battle them on an analogue set up and after you win, pee on them. During the battle, spit out little phrases like, “Bend over ch cause you’re gonna gate rd” or “eat **it and die” or my personal favorite “Drink a bucket of AIDS”. Err nm, don’t talk smack, just pwn their face.
Violence amongst DJs is a bad idea cause you never know what promoters that guy is in good with. If you must resort to violence, keep it out of the public eye and make sure he can’t talk or doesn’t know it’s you. I am in no way condoning a severe ass beating, but just watch your own ass. That’s why it’s best to just battle to settle things
I sent him some embedded vids on myspace from my friend’s account, hehe.. One of Ean, one of Deadmau5 , and one of Richie Hawtin .. suck on that-a-one-time!!!
whats funny is a lot of these lil sheep don’t know most of us digital kats started out on the old school turntable and vinyl.
I always just say hey, since I will get to see you beat match all night, you are welcome to come over to my house and watch me beat match to your hearts content (Beat Grid / Warp).
… as well I usually jump on their gear and rock something out.
good times.
Sever abdominal pain and will most likely end up in the bathroom doing something out of that “Dumb and Dumber” bathroom scene.
Or the Wedding Crashers scene, where he upchucks for a whole day =D .. I’m above that, just had to vent .. Moving on, the only thing I can do now is get a bigger badder gig- No matter where I play I have people that come out and see me.. this one just bugged me, the basta’d.
They suck but you have to deal with them on the club scene, exactly the same that were saying “digital is crap” and finaly goes now to serato SL or CDJ… when I started with cdjs500s then CDJ1000 after 5 years with vinyls, it was exactly the same…
That’s life… But it doesn’t matter anymore.
CRT on the scene>have you ever seen 2manyDJs on their starting period ?
How does that legitimize DJing with software? All it shows is that you can do what he does on his terms, not that what you do with software is just as legitimate.
I’ve never been a vinyl DJ. I’ve never been a CDJ DJ. Do you really want to make the case here that I’m somehow not as competent a DJ because I have no reason to battle some guy on equipment that’s not relevant to what I do? Is a DJ who sucks ass on vinyl somehow more legit than one who shows up with a laptop, takes his room from him, and spanks it till it calls him daddy?
The notion that you should confront him on his own terms only fortifies his argument (I note nobody’s insisting the vinyl guy battle you on software) and implicitly insults software DJs.
The set I put together for tomorrow would of had people coming in off the streets into his place, just non-stop boncin, bangin, fun stuff - and he’s gotta be all uppidty.. He’s a freakin scratchin hip-hop DJ looking to start a House/Techno night.. I play House, I have people, what dumbass.
