Forget beatgridding vs beatmatching…

Neither are necessary anymore.

Just click, cue, play… and drop cotton.

(ha.. you thought I was talking about Traktor. I keed, I keed.)

Interesting. For someone like me, who has little experience producing, I would like to try this out of personal interest. What sucks though, is that software like this just lowers the quality average for bootlegs and mashups and pollutes the market with garbage productions. It allows mashups to be made with much less skill and musical understanding. Its hard enough as it is to weed through all the garbage and find quality productions. I know all of this is pretty obvious but its how I feel.

So mixmeister and MIK had a baby boy?

can i trade in my tsp?

+1

We need more people thinking in the music industry.

Actually this raises the quality average. If I’m going to have to listen to slapped together mashups that don’t make any sense, at least they will be harmonically and rhythmically consistent. I’m willing to pay MIK extra to sent a copy of this software to GirlTalk…

“We wanted to create our mashups in 5 minutes or less, but there was no software to make it easy.”

lol - sorry fellas, Ableton has that covered. Mashups in under 2 minutes :\

This is done in Traktor in 2 seconds with anyone who can push sync and find and eq songs in complimentary keys.

And now…i will POOP on it!

I keed…I keed!

I think upon further review, I missed the point of this post. And for that, I apologize

I think Ableton misses the mark on making it easy. Sure after you learn it it’s easy, but out of the box it’s not.

I would say it depends on the person Jojo.

Have you tried any production before? Like on Reason, FL Studio, Cubase, Logic etc? If you have (which I recon most young DJ’s have done, or at least seen someone do it) then you will find that all DAW’s are pretty much the same.

The functions are slightly different and in different places. Work Flow is also different.

If you have never tried production or used any of the above software, then sure…its not easy.

Coming from a Cubase and Reason back ground, I never really gave Ableton much of a go. Once I stopped producing a few years ago, I used Ableton to build sets and edit tracks.

So last year I actually gave Ableton a bit of a go, trying to put some Electro together (having made Psytrance before) and was amazed how much easier I found Ableton and its work flow compared to the other DAW’s.

With all the others, there are so many layers of devices and area’s that it takes sooo many clicks to move around. Even if you know the keyboard shortcuts. Its the Mixer page, the arrangement page, the VST Manager etc.

With Ableton, its all there in front of you really and doing things like cutting\copying and pasting and editing tracks is so so so simple compared to the other DAW’s. I just found the work flow to be really really good.

Then, the sound that comes out of Ableton’s Audio Engine is TIT. Better than Cubase and Reason etc.

If you totally new to it, it can be daunting…i agree and is why i snubbed it initially.

I am not sure if the latest versions of Cubase have improved on their work flow aspects etc, but I would say that Abelton is indeed easier and simpler to control than Cubase.

Splitting hairs, I know…but just needed to mention it.

I tried Logic about a year ago as well (got the Mac, so no Cubase etc) and it seriously frustrated me. It took me about an hour to find the Time Stretch function.

So I can see you point Jojo.

Ha ha!

Love that dog.

HAHAHA Awesome!

Thought it was missed…

This is a interesting idea but I would like to see something else that assists with preparing Traktor sets. ie: using something like MIKMashup to setup que points and then have MIKMashup output a traktor .nml file instead of creating raw files. Something to help simplify initial Traktor workflows.

I’m not sure adding another piece of software to make Traktor easier is really making things easier. What is it you find difficult about doing it in Traktor?

While I find traktor very easy to use I do not use Traktor at all for preparing sets and crates. I generally use iTunes which is a bit of a habit I guess.

Just looking for something simple to assist with initial listening and being able to play around with two tracks playing at once to see how compatible they are. Sorta like iTunes but with two decks and a bit of intelligence to assist.

It might sound a bit redundant but it would assist me a lot. In addition I do a lot of set prep from a machine that does not have Traktor at all installed.

EDIT: and if the software could help set the beat grid that would be great. One of the things I really dislike is beat gridding.

I bet your car is an automatic.

And your car is not? While my car is automatic I have the option of manually shifting. Choice is good.
