You didn’t notice it had been beat up every night in a club for a fraction of a decade, and still functioned completely? Feeling “plasticy” means absolutely nothing when when everything feels solid, and you’re positive that after being slammed on for the millionth time, that button isn’t going to get launched through the floor, and is going to have the snappiest response available. But no, you’re right, they’re plastic, so they must be overpriced crap that doesn’t last very long.
Yes I do.
Searched on user reviews about this player & it does seems to get a pretty satisfactory rating. The much talked downside is the platter feel, it’s too heavy..
I do have some interest in this Gemini player tbh..
all,
while it’s known that gemni does/did have a not-so-well track record…
It looks like the CDJ-700 and the CDMP-7000 series of players/sets do have a pretty good price/performance ratio.
Now, when it comes to build quality I also would like to say that the CDJ1000MK3 almost has the same feel – plastic.
The buidl quality doesn’t always have to say aything. The ioneers have shown partly ther durability while these pleyers haven’t yet.
So instead of bashing, why don’t we start tryingthem and use/abue them the same way? Note that you must also look at details like:
CDJ-700 EUR 555
CDJ-2000 EUR 1799
The major difference between the two units currently are:
a) price
b) lack of linking players on CDJ-700
c) no way to store cue points on SDcard CDJ-700 (could be fixed in s/w)
Especially when you have the stuff at home, and/or people who care about equipment, I believe that the price
alone itself is enough reason to at least test them. You can get 6 (!) CDJ-700’s for two CDJ-2000’s.
So even if you break 4 CDJ-700’s you still have money left.
Having said all this, I am receiving a complete CDMP-7000 set on a week or two and have the ability to test it for 30 days.
I’ll let you know how it went and how it compares to the pioneer stuff. I do know they’re defacto standards but the price is
not easy to step over. I mean 5000 euros for a pioneer set at home or 1000 euros?

Pioneer indeed makes nice DJ gear. No one can deny that. Pioneer isn’t the only brand that makes DECENT Dj gear.
Brands like Gemini and JB Systems make crap gear (no offence).
A brand like Denon DJ however makes pretty decent DJ gear. I would eventually choose a Denon DN-S3700 over a Pioneer CDJ-1000 and a DN-S3900 over a CDJ-2000.
Interesting, keep us updated!
Don’t belive the hype. I just bought 2 CDJ 900s and DJM 700. One deck has a faulty output and keeps freezing, the pots on the mixer move that much they feel like they will snap off. Also the latency with Traktor is terrible to the extent I can’t trust it enough to gig with.
I also have 2 Radius 3000s and for the price and the features on them it makes me wonder why the Pio’s are so expensive. I also have a behringer DDM4000, again for the money this is an awesome mixer. The sound quality of the DJM 700 is better but it lacks the features of the DDM which is half the price. A higher price and Bigger hype doesn’t count for squat after you’ve spent you hard earned money and find you’ve got the bad apple in the barrel.
I looked at the Gemini CDJ 700 and thought it was a good deck for the money but I didn’t like the screen. The deal maker for me with the Pio’s was rekord box as I can look at ditching Traktor
I think this is a great alternative, it gives the club ponies they layout they want and shows what a CDJ could cost if truckloads weren’t given away to venues and people who really could afford their own.
Even if these couldn’t stand up to the environment inside a venue I’m sure they would be fine at home and I’m sure there would be some kind of warranty on them. Just a pair of these and a copy of rekord box to prep your shiz and your sorted.
I know some of you guys depend on pioneer been in the booth, but really it’s high time pio were told to GTFO cause they really are ripping you guys off.
Those two statements contradict each other just a bit.
In related news, the CDJ-350s are now around $550 a deck off of Amazon. For an extra $100 over the Geminis, you can get a really solid set of players, with Rekordbox support. That’s looking to be the best deal for the price as of now.
Not sure I’d call the CDJ350s really solid players.
I bet you Gemini has some rekordbox/engine style software in the works, it’s the current trendy thing and I remember seeing them hinting at it on their youtube channel.
Why not? Aside from cue loading and a waveform (which has a partial workaround), it’s got virtually everything you’d need in a really tiny box. Sturdy switches and encoder, a solid jogwheel, and Rekordbox support. There’s not really any kind of durability or feel issues, especially when compared to a piece of Gemini equipment.
They don’t seem to be study as the rest of Pioneer gear.
How can you compare the build or feel? Have you tested both? I’d certainly be interested to hear more if you have ![]()
The 350 doesn’t look like a bad little unit, haven’t had the pleasure of getting my hands on either of the 2 so comments about build would be purely on reputation. But if i had to choose then I’d say the 700 has got some pretty decent reviews thus far and the hot starts would be a deal breaker for me. I could still organize my stuff in rekord box if i needed to.
In this case I would go Gemini over Pio, so what would I know eh lolz!![]()
I wish there was a program that would allow you to manage cue points etc and such and would create USB sticks compatible with all media players not just those from one company. Probably a shed load of legal reasons why that isn’t possible but it would be nice.
The 350s are small, that’s their main crux, but the switches are all rock solid, with metal buttons on most of the controls. The jog is just a bit tiny, but feels really smooth and holds together reasonably well for such a small unit.
I can instantly tell who actually knows what they’re talking about by how they feel about Pio jogs. All of them make scratchy noises when you move them, but they’re actually ridiculously smooth. The difference between “feeling like the bearings have sand in them” and “damn these really feel nice” is usually touching them in guitar centre, vs actually playing on them. The noise goes away when the music starts.
I would never buy these purely out of trust. I trust pioneer that there products (even if they are overpriced) are reliable and will last me if you want something cheap go for some reloops
My CDJ-200s “crashed” more times each than all the computers I’ve used. The only difference was they didn’t happen to do it while a track was live and it only takes a few seconds to cycle the power on them.
Also…if the store was or was like Guitar Center……everything in there is broken. It’s not indicative of real use…it really seems like people go in there just to break things.
As an example…I played a Moog Minitaur yesterday (thursday) at GC. The LFO was completely nonfunctional. It worked when I played it on Tuesday. I don’t for a second think that’s indicative of Moog’s product quality.
Gemini has no chance of being a market leader. Frankly, I’d consider buying one of their CD players if it had a reasonable chance of lasting 3-5 years, came with a matching warranty, and didn’t feel like a toy. That last one is the one people don’t seem to understand.
As far as touching things and feeling like quality, NI is worlds beyond any of the CDJ makers, and the SCS.4d is one of the more impressive things out there……or it would be if it had even half decent pitch faders.
Agreed. It’s sad how bad they feel for what they cost.
I really want to try an RMP-2.5α. Unfortunately, they seem not to exist in the US.
These would be a great option for people who wants to practice on CDJ’s to play in the clubs but don’t have enough cash to buy them. Technically layout is exactly as the pioneer so if you practice on these, you wouldn’t feel awkward playing on a club. I am thinking of buying 2 for home practicing. I don’t like bringing my laptop around as it is also my laptop for producing so i don’t want to risk losing my files for djing
Could just add in cue points into the ID3 tags… it would work fine, no legal issues. Needs a few of the ‘cheaper’ companies (Gemini, Numark etc) to bring it in, and then maybe Denon and Pio might adopt alongside Engine/Rekordbox.
It’s shocking the price difference between Gemini CDJ700 and Pioneer 900/2000 though. Even though the Gemini is made of inferior parts, I could make a solid gold Gemini deck inlaid with diamonds for the price that Pioneer are charging
- hey I got an idea, paint them white and charge extra… white is expensive you know!
The CDJ market needs more competition up at the higher end, because it is a smaller market and Pioneer have dominated for far too long which has allowed them to abuse their position. Anything trying to break into this hi-end market is good for all of us (except maybe peeps who have been forced to blow ~£3k to get an ‘industry standard’ Pioneer setup - they HAVE to slate the Gemini deck to feel that they haven’t overpaid (it’s not a dig, as I’d be doing it to if I had spent that! - it’s just human nature)) Pioneer are taking us for a ride, but with decks like the DN2/3900 and this, there are now more prosumer options than ever. Hopefully this will force Pioneer to get real with their pricing.
When’s someone gonna make a Traktor deck (with Traktor built-in)? It’d kill everything else out there! JB Systems, I’m looking at you ![]()
Hey everyone.
I called my guy at Long and Mcquade to price me up a pair of the Gemini CDJ 700. They don’t normally stock gemini at L&M.
Anyway, the guy wouldn’t even give him a price because he said they were having a lot of problems with them. So that answers your questions about these bad boys.
