Getting some new CDJS

Getting some new CDJS

So I’m upgrading from cdj 200’s. Important features to me are a waveform, I’d like to be able to see where my track is going regarding breaks etc… a USB feature would be nice, other then that the jogs and pitch have to feel nice…

My butchet will be about 1000 euro’s. So what would you guys recommend? I was thinking about the pioneer 850-K’s, but do any of you have experience with them?

Any help and advice would be much appreciated!

The only pio mixer with a decent waveform is the 2k.
Regarding USB feature, 350 have it and they’re relatively cheap. The thing is : the jobwheel is pure crap.
Pitch-wise, anything above the 850 will be the same (i guess).

I’d say you’re pretty much screwed ( so am I, i got the same criteria but i can’t just pay for 2k atm) so you’ll have to define what’s the priority for you (USB ? jogwheel ?).

There isn’t a great CDJ for what you’re wanting…which I think means the CDJ market is screwed. If you really want CDJs, think about whether the 850 is an upgrade from what you have or sit and bitch about how they’re not a good one on the market for a reasonable price……which may or may not eventually have an effect.

So you’re telling me there isn’t a CDJ with a decent waveform and USB? I could save for the 2k’s but I don’t care about all those extra features that much so it’d be silly to pay the extra money for it… Anyone have the 850’s do they have a good display and jog feel to em?

Have a look at this video … there is a waveform display - just not as good as the 2000’s and Audio CD’s waveform display does not show advance just in realtime, if you are pre-analyzing via reckordbox all waveforms are pre-analyzed though.

850 should do you just fine.

only downside with the 850s though is that you lose WIDE mode when using USB.

Wide mode??

Can’t you just get a harddrive with 2 USB ports and plug it into each player though?

I dont know if that would work… i personally dont own cdjs just yet but a guy in my crew has the 850s. they are great players. I use them two ways stand alone with 2 flash usb sticks exported from rekorbox, and with dvs (serato) i havent used traktor yet but i do have the djm 900 i may pick up the upgrade from NI later this summer. The waveform isnt perfect, but it gives you a general clue when the breakdown occurs, enough to where if you have listened to a track more than once youll be fine. Jog wheel is great!

Okay I’m pretty close to deciding on the 850’s then… Also seen some reviews and they look good. Any upgrade from the 200’s will be a gift from heaven anyways lol

I hear ya!! Good luck and congrats! Still waiting on my wife to give me the thumbs up to purchase mine… im thinking she will be cool with it by my bday in september!!

Oh yeah, still gotta save up for 600 more if I do though, gonna buy em new ^^
Next goal; djm 900 nexus ^^

I freakin love my nexus!!! Since my.buddy already had 850s i went high end mixer route first… best 1650 ive ever spent!! And you can get it for around 1500 now i hear.

That product doesn’t exist and USB doesn’t work like that. So, no.

Hm no, biggie then just have to put your tracks on 2 usb’s…

Yeah…that’s simper anyway. Plus, then a simple LAN reverse cable becomes your backup. And your 3rd USB key that cost the same like $14 each of the first 2 did.

I have a 320GBtough seagete with 2 usb outputs… i havent tried it though.

Link? I can’t seem to find anything like that on seagate’s website.

I really don’t think it’s viable. Getting IOP requests from 2 sources at once wouldn’t play well with the way hard drives work.

i agree, but doesn’t 1 external hooked up to the 900s or 2000s with prolink basically do the same thing? whether it be a TB or simple SD or Flash thumb drive, it is still coming from one source. i’ll post pics and send links when i get home and can do so and look up model #

No, it doesn’t. The CDJ that actually has the drive plugged into it shares it over a network and controls the IOP requests.

The USB chipset in the hard drive and the chips on the drive aren’t really meant to do what you’re asking. I guess it’s possible someone has come up with a device that does something similar just using USB, but unless you’ve used it like that, I think it’s a lot more likely that it just has 2 different sized USB ports so that you don’t have to worry as much about which cable you bring with it.
