2 years back i saw dj funk and was like wtf this stuff is crazy. I mean it might no be the most sophisticated nor technically impressive style of music, but on a night when you just wanna totally lose and just jump around to the ridiculously fast pounding bass kicks and weirdly attractive raw synths. Add to the mix some obnoxious lyrics and voilà! So what’s your opinion on this stuff? Played it, seen somebody spin it? What are good artists for this kinda music?
For those who want a taster (or rather a mega sized sub) or this should visit http://www.jeffersonave.com/music . dj assault has almost his whole production put up as free 320k downloads. I saw him spin last night and the party was insane! Personally I’m thinking about doing something with this stuff.
I love that “Let Me Bang” track! Personally, I fantasize about a juke / dubstep crossover called jukestep which mixes the sound palette of dubstep with the energy and danceability of juke.
I love this style of music, it’s so great and terrible at the exact same time.
It’s one of the reasons why I personally want to get into production, because I honestly think that Ghetto Bass style music can be brought cross-platform into Dubstep/DnB and really hasn’t been.
Here’s a link to my ghetto Tech mix from '97. I’m originally from Michigan and used to play this stuff every night. Every song usually has it’s own dance to go with it too…lol. This mix was recorded live in one take. Enjoy!
Just throwing this out there, but I am a huuuuge ghetto tech and Miami bass fan. It’s all just so ridiculous that it can’t be tons of fun. I feel like girls are about five times as drunk as they actually are when dancing to this stuff.
I’m bumping this thread in hopes it will approach the size of those old dubstep and d n’ b threads.
I just wrote this in another thread but Drop The Lime and Trouble & Bass crew (www.troubleandbass.com) pretty much do just that. ghettotech, 80s rap and electro, bassline house, UK garage, jungle, dubstep, etc
the style is called ‘bass music’. anything with massive bass haha
Is it disco d night at the booty bar which could be worth checking out. I think that’s what its called. I got onto it as Dave Clarke mentioned him when he died not long back.
