Gig tomorrow, never touched a CDJ :smiley: !!! HELP !!! LOL!

So, I have a gig tomorrow and I have never touched a CDJ or a real mixer. Although, I know how they work,I know what beatmatching, pitch bending is, what phrasing is,etc. I have been playing around with Traktor for a while now like 3 or 4 months. Also, I have watched extensive lessons videos and mixing sessions to see how the pros from the industry handle the CDJs and stuff. Now, my friend has TSP and is using time-coded cds with his CDJs-850. I was wondering, can I sync songs using Traktors ? Also, if not, any tips !?!??!? LOL ! I have already planned “a mini-set” to get me started with some practiced transitions (echo effects, backspins and more) and from there on out, I will be just mixing with the flow. I know I have to enjoy myself, stay calm and relax, but any tips ?

On a more personnal note, I will be playing at my school and I will be mixing electro/house, progressive house and some top 40.

So, any tips ?

wait, so will be using traktor scratch? if so, the sync will work.

just remember the outside weel does a slight tempo change…as does the surface, ONLY if it is not in scratch mode.

Jokes aside, you’ve got some balls. It took me about a year before I dared play in front of anyone besides family and close friends.

And my tip - just because you have effects doesnt mean you have to lay on them constantly. Don’t be afraid to let the song play.

If he knows how to beatmatch manually he should be fine, its just a learning curve from going from one controller to another. I had zero knowledge on using CDJ’s (Pioneers) and after playing two tracks I got the hang of it.

Being friends with other DJ’s or Promoters lands you gigs, usually the opening or closing set.

“To DJ in the scene that you want to be in…you have to be seen by those in that particular scene”

I am going to be operating on this guy’s heart tomorrow. I have never done any sort of operation,but I have watched lots of videos, and I cut my own meat at dinner and stuff, so I should be fine right??

Ah its a school dance, man just play the Bangers! (as the kids call it)

The last school dance I play in High School was for Halloween, all I played was Gabber Hardcore…all the hardhouse kids love it. (Back in the late 90s)

This. Those kids probably won’t even care if the songs ain’t matched that well. Hell they’d even rock out to an iTunes playlist.

Seems like a perfect occasion to learn to use CDJ’s.
