Glitchy Arcade Button Help

Glitchy Arcade Button Help

I have a VCI-100 with arcade buttons and one of the buttons has became very glitchy. I checked all the connections on the button terminals and everything seems to be OK. That being said, I don’t really know what to look for. The button does work from time to time (and up until this past weekend worked flawlessly), but it must be pushed multiple times in a row. Seems to me like the only possibility is a bad connection somewhere or the button itself correct? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Sounds like the micro switch under the button has ran its course. Those switches will wear out!

The button is a couple dollars. Easier to just replace the buuton your having problems with…

^What he said! Order new ones from DJTT store if you’re located in the US, check out gremlinsolutions.co.uk or arcadebuttons.de if you’re European. If anywhere else, no clue what’s cheapest!
I suggest buying at once 2-3 by the way, shipping costs will outweigh the individual cost, saves you quite some bucks (and time) if another one wears out.

Did you do the mod yourself? Check that all of the soldering is good and there’s nothing shorting out. That can be a bitch though especially if it’s shrink wrapped up like it should be. Buttons only cost $2.19 so it would be pretty easy to just switch one out to trouble shoot it, but even that will require some soldering. Order a tshirt or new USB cable to help justify the shipping.

Thanks for the replies. I did not do the mod myself, but did buy it from someone who did. This was my first concern when the button started having issues. The wire was soldered to the terminal on the button, but was not as solid as I would have preferred. So I used my soldering iron to make a more solid connection. Still no help. I also noticed a small amount of solder on the actual wire itself about 2 inches up that I thought could have been shorting out somehow, so I wrapped that small area and still no luck. I assume this leaves me with the option of just replacing the buttons correct?

If this is in fact the case, I was thinking of changing all of the buttons out to solid black because I think it looks more professional. Are the pre-soldered lead cables still available from the DJTT store like in the DIY tutorial video (VCI-100 DIY Arcade Mod - DJ TechTools about 5:30 in)? The reason I ask is because the leads with diodes are much cleaner looking in Ean’s video than what I currently have (they do work correctly, but I don’t feel very confident cutting them off the old buttons and re-soldering for a 2nd time). Thanks!
