Can anybody gimme some input as to whether this would be an upgrade for me or a downgrade? (Sorry if the answer is obvious, I’m new to the speaker world.)
I’m currently using this set of computer speakers. They were brand new in like 2003, lol.
" As for power, 5 x 5.5 watts RMS for the satellites and central channel, and 23.5 watts RMS for the woofer. Logitech claims a bandwidth of 35 Hz through 20 KHz with a noise-to-signal ratio of better than 75 dB."
A review done on the speakers.
I’m looking into buying these speakers:
The price range is right for me for the pair of speakers.
“Active stereo speaker system with built-in amplifier
Two-way system with 5” woofer and 1” tweeter
Amplifier built in
Easily accessible level, treble, and bass controls
Standard RCA input for connection to virtually all audio devices"
I’m just concerned with whether or not they’ll be able to produce the same bass as the subwoofer with my PC speakers. Or if I’d be able to somehow use the subwoofer with the Numark speakers!
It basically means “these speakers all suck in exactly the same way, so we can make them sound basically the same.”
For $100, I’m not sure of anything that’s actually better, but…my suggestion would be to save up money for a bit longer if you can. A set of KRK RP5 speakers will sound a lot better and probably last longer, for example. Mine are several years old, have been carried around, and sound great.
There are a decent number of pretty-good speakers in that price range as well, but unless something’s changed in the last couple years, stuff cheaper than that is seriously lacking.
If you’re forced to go $100 or cheaper, I’d look at the smaller active monitors by M-Audio or Behringer first…M-Audio because I’d expect them to be a bit better made and Behringer because they’re cheaper…which helps you to save for better ones.
I had them a while back cos they came as part of a deal with a numark omni control, and they suck. Quite loud, but muddy as hell. If you can afford KRKs they’re a MUCH better choice.
Thanks! Do the KRKs reproduce good quality bass? I’ve got a subwoofer with my set of PC speakers listed above and I don’t want the quality in basslines to go down cuz that will make it harder for me to mix, ya?
last saturday night i was planning on going out and was at my mate’s house, a mate who happens to have KRK rokit 5s. I was quite tired from the day’s efforts, and was almost starting to doze off at his desk, when he put on the song ‘relic’ by betatraxx.
I was awake in half a second from the bass blowing my face off.
And if it’s not enough, there’s always the 10s subwoofer
KRK’s produce good low’s, especially the 6’s and 8’s. You can check the site for the specs on the frequency range and compare them. I wanted 8’s and settled for 6’s and glad i did, as the bass would be too much for my room if I had.
I have a pair of M-Audi BX8A’s. While they don’t have as much clarity at lower volumes as KRK’s have — they are loud and they bump. Awesome low’s. I’ve played with these when I have friends over for UFC parties, I’ve used them to play at small pool parties. Best part is I got them on Craigslist for 250.00 and they are pack an awesome punch.
If I was on a budget and wanted the most bang literally for my buck I’d hunt these down.
