Going out to get my first club gig…

What all should I bring?

My thoughts are:

  1. Business Cards
    and
  2. Sample Mixes on CD’s

Is there anything else I should bring? Do I definitely need the 2 I listed?

Any advice helps, thanks!

Here’s a link to today’s other first gig thread. You’ll find that links to other threads with useful info, I can’t be bothered to search and cut ‘n’ paste again.

personally wouldn’t bother with the cards

just put all the info on the cd artwork and save yourself some money

or get double cds burnt/printed

Thank you thank you thank you, that should pretty much cover it

Pro tip: Don’t do this on a Friday/Saturday night. A nice Tuesday afternoon will mean you can have a good chat with the boss.

Check, so, if a club opens around 5 or 6 on a Tuesday, just head in around then?

@JasonBay… thanks, forgot to post the link

Any time when it’s not busy, mate. Maybe even ring up first and let the manager know who you are and what you want to see him for. Chances are he’ll ask you to pop a CD in the post - but be persistent! You’l be at an advantage just having him see your face.

What kind of club opens around 5 or 6?

No worries mate, knew what you where getting at.

Most of the clubs around my town are bars that open up a dancefloor around 10-11…

Question for everyone here though: I’ve been reading and a lot of people are saying “If you can’t use CDJ’s, don’t bother.” Is that true? I used an S4 for a year, then switched to the VCI-400EGE as soon as it came out and I feel like those are both more than powerful enough to play at a club with.

Thoughts/Opinions?

When do you think the drinks get delivered?

I’ve always used my controller without any trouble at all

I hope he means “AM”

Not when a place is open, that’s for sure. Would be a cluster fuck otherwise.

So they’re not really clubs then.

As for your question, I wouldn’t sweat it to be honest, even less of an issue as they are just bars.

Exactly. Usually just a couple of staff around to open the doors. PROBABLY the MANAGER, too…

I know your situation. Most “clubs” around this “town” are the same. Also you really shouldn’t give an actual frock about what others say. Play your set on what you feel comfortable with, end of discussion.

(Brotip: ask for a bouncer to keep the booth safe, if necessary, the drunks in a bar can get (quite) damn obnoxious (glass ashtrays and drinks being thrown at you aren’t cool stuff [no, i was not playing a bad set, they were just drunk out of their mind]))

But that doesn’t mean they’re open though
