Good deal on MBP... Is this amazing?

Good deal on MBP… Is this amazing?

Looks like a cracking deal. Am I missing something?

http://www.jigsaw24.com/product-details/md035ba/apple-macbook-pro-hi-res-antiglare-15.4-quad-core-i7-2.3ghz-4gb-750gb-notebook-computer

1200 pounds? good deal? really?

It’s £1,462.80 actually, cos you have to add VAT, but it’s £1,849 on Apple’s site. It’s a very good saving on the list price, but whether it represents good value for money in general is another matter of course.

Thats a bargain, if your after that spec!

Jigsaw are spot on aswell, we use them as a supplier from time to time at work

Its a saving of a few hundred quid on the last series of MBPs. Its not one of the current ones.

Its not a bad deal.

If Lecko trusts them then id say its cool. Hes works for an Apple Premium seller if i remember rightly..?

I’ve bought from Jigsaw before, they’re the real deal.

So spec wise what makes it different to the absolute latest ones?

It’s got thunderbolt and ships with lion etc.

It’s 750GB HD and 2.3 GHZ

Also Anti glare… is that win?

Well basically I want dedicated graphics card for HD video editing…

Has the graphics card changed or is this the latest?

Thanks btw

Anti-glare is win. Basically means you have a matte screen instead of a glossy screen if mine is any indication (then again my mpb is 4 years old almost… from before you had to pay extra for a matte screen).

Yeh the MacBook Pro’s had a slight upgrade in October I think

We were Authorised Re-Sellers now We’re Authorised Consultants!? I don’t really get involved with that side of thing, I just fix shit and do some ordering :sunglasses:

over a grand and no SSD?

you’ve gotta love OSX a LOT to pay that kind of money.

And no booth out?

Seriously though, do you really need a SSD? You get a lot more storage for the money with traditional HDDs (even though Apple components are overpriced, I’ll give you that).

For a grand, I’d want a laptop with 2 x hard disk bays (one normal disk, one SSD) and an optical bay. I’d also want a 17" 1080p non-glare screen.

If I was spending over a grand, I’d go for a Lenovo or Clevo.. something like this:

(there are also 15" versions of this laptop)

edit: and yeah, SSD’s are absolutely worth it.

LOL..!

A glowing Apple on the front:wink:

Depends on who your asking. There are members of this site who will tell you that SSD is so essential that there lives depend on it and will advise anyone and everyone to get an SSD at the cost of anything else.

Me, im a massive MEH to SSD. I use my laptop for Traktor, nothing else. I also have to have my 50,000 track collection for what i do (which is lots of different gigs)… SSD is pointless for a Traktor only setup, its a waste of money.

a 256gb SSD is plenty big enough for a decent Traktor collection and costs around £250. That’s quite a lot more than you’d pay for a regular hard disk but the speed and reliability is more than worth it.

I think it’s one of those things that you need to try for yourself. Once you go SSD, you’ll never go back!

edit: and a 50,000 tune collection, even at wav quality, only takes up around 3-5gb of space. You could easily get by with a 64gb SSD which costs significantly less (especially if all you use your laptop for is Traktor). I got my OCZ Agility 3 64gb for around £80.

edit2: my maths is very poor… never mind, lol :open_mouth:

How..? My iTunes collection alone is 375gb.

Then theres my iPhoto stuff and all my other apps like Kontakt , Maschine , Guitar Rig etc (no Ableton)

oops - I missed a few 0’s in my calculation lol

you carry around 375gb of music on your Traktor laptop?

Yes sir.

I think “157 days” of music says it all really!

I appreciate everyone is different but that, to me, is too much music for even a whole weekend of gigs. I would happily give up most of the music (too many choices can actually be a hindrence in my experience) and go for an SSD.

But, horses for courses and all that…

But you dont know what i do..?

Theres no hinderance at all. In fact its the opposite for the kind of DJ i am.

I play an regular Indie gig. Have done for 12 years I have a massive Indie collection and i need it as i play everything from the Beatles to the latest and coolest Indie bands. I get requests from all eras and i like to have everything that im asked for especially in the warm up slot when i get chance to play some more obscure music for people. People ask me “have you got blah blah” and sometimes i dont know, but i have look and if i have got it i have the choice to play it but generally, i know exactly what i have despite having a lot of music. If someone asks for some “Black Sabbath” i know i have some, maybe not exactly which ones but i can say 'Yes i have".

I do a Top 40 gig so i need a lot of pop music from all decades.

I also do (my kind of music) hiphop/funk/house/nu-disco gigs and i buy a lot of music for these gigs.

All of this music is arranged into folders and playlists. They do not cross contaminate each other.

My Indie gigs are done from an Indie folder that has lots of playlists to work out of.
I do weekly prep for this gig.

Same goes for my Top40 gig.

I dont just do a weekend of gigs. I do every week of every month of every year.
If im doing a slot at a festival or a specialist gig ill make preparations for that gig specifically.

For me to just have the music i need for a gig on my laptop would be a huge PITA.
I organise my music more than i do anything else in life and this makes my DJing a lot easier.

I appreciate that many DJs on DJTT have a small collection that serves their gigging as they only gig occasionally. Im not that DJ.

fair play - an SSD drive clearly isn’t for you!

that said, I know plenty of professional dnb dj’s (they dj for a living, several times per week, all over the world) who manage fine with a much smaller collection. I guess the difference is they don’t do weddings, bah mitzvahs, funerals and student nights!!

You must need to be seriously organised to keep a collection of that size in check!! I’ve only got a few hundred in my collection and it’s taken me ages to get it to a point i’m happy with!!
