Got vestax vci 100.. Now help me decide Mac vs PC

My needs right now is very simple. I need to have a fast enough pc/mac to handle traktor pro. I will not gig out with the vci yet but I am planning to take it out in the future.

MAC/macbook
-very reliable
-audio friendly
-hardly crash
-EXPENSIVE

PC/Laptop
-Cheap(you can build a very fast pc/laptop for under $1000)
-fast
-A monster if you know what yo are doing(building tested compatible hardwares)
-Freezes alot
-Not sure if your build will be good until you build it and test.
-CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP

Portability is not an issue right now and I am willing to carry my COMPUTER desktop to gigs HAHAH.

Please no Fanboy opinion. I need honest unbiased opinion only!

mac

ive used both for dj’ing.. switched to mac about 3 months ago.. i just find it much more intuitive, helps me keep things organized, looks better and has never crashed on me.. no viruses etc

plus the worst possible thing would be for your computer to freeze during a set, that alone should push you towards a mac.

Um… I was at a gig on Saturday and the DJ’s MBP crashed and she lost all her audio… complete… dead… air

On a Mac…

If you treat a PC right it will treat you right, I genuinely believe that. Set your budget and then shop within that.

Also, I’m sure you CAN bring a desktop, but are you really going to want to?

yes and I have done it. I brought a stupid 17 inch crt monitor with an Imac mini to a gig… Got a few laughs but whatever, it works.

I still don’t get this “if you treat a PC right” you are preaching about. I did an xp audio tweak, reformat and clean installed to see if traktor will work in my desktop(2.6p4 2gig mem and only traktor running) and still getting audio glitches and dropouts.

Well, what audio interface are you using?

The argument that I hear all the time that PCs will crash, or you will get viruses, or any of the other excuses, is bullshit. If you log into multiple sites with spyware and adware and don’t put anti-virus or anti-spyware software on, then yes, you will be fucked. If you don’t take care of the machine then it will fall apart.

I am still running the same Dell I bought three years ago and it works fine. I think it’s finally starting to go, but I have a new machine to replace it. I have treated it well and it treats me well.

Something no one has weighed in on yet,
-Windows is the devil
-Macs are cute
-Steve Jobs cares for your family and livelihood
-Join the socialist mac revolution!

Lock this thread now please. I’m going to start punching babies if I read ONE MORE MAC / PC THREAD!!!

I am using connectiv

like i said I dont want any fanboy here… just honest opinion… If you dont like the thread then just keep your mouth shut and dont reply.

my post was a joke seriously though there are enough mac vs. pc threads, nothing is going to be resolved, make a decision you already know/can search for the facts

Evan_C both computers have their strengths and weakness, but to be honest. What it really comes down to is how much $$$ you have in your budget. I used a oldschool Toshiba 2.8 ghz 1.5Gb ram and it was a really good to me, I did have some small issue along the way but I always brought a back media just in case. Now Mac’s, they are very expensive, why? But the machines work. I really dislike Mac Vs PC threads being that they go nowhere. If you got 3k go buy a Macbook Pro if you dont, and have 1.5k get a Dell or something of the same caliber. If you have 1k get a Macbook or Dell, do you see where Im going with this?

I TOTALLY agree 100% I am am still running a Dell Dimension 8200 with 2gigs of ram and a 1.8ghz processor (not dual core!) Its runs 3.4 and pro fine with my audio kontrol 1. I also have a macbook that I’ve been using with 3.4 and pro. Both set ups give me no grief because I keep them clean.

Ok so my desktop 2.6 pentium 4 not dual core and 1 2 gig mem- clean installed should handle traktor well but no, Im getting dropouts freezing etc. I can run my torq connectiv + TCV fine but not traktor. What gives?

The only reason I’m thinking about buying a Mac is to go along with the VCI-100. The ONLY reason. Other than that, I will always say that a well tuned PC can keep up with any Mac on any given day.

Why would you buy a MAC for the VCI-100?

What do you think is going to be posted in this thread that hasn’t been posted in the 35 other threads? You think you’re special?

Come on man…grow up a bit and read what other people have already written.

Latency, maybe?

Alright people, comin through for the “Let’s keep it civil” part of it.
