Has anyone ever used Mixxx (free digital DJ software)?

Hi! This is my first post, so please be patient with me if I come across as a newbie lol.

So, I’ve been using Mixxx v.1.11.0 for quite some time now, and I was wondering whether anyone else on here used this app – if so, what are your opinions of it? I personally think that while it does have a few bugs and glitches every so often, it definitely gets the job done, and done quite well. I personally enjoy playing classic trance (i.e. “Push - Strange World (2000 Remake)” for instrumental tracks or “Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (DJ Tiesto Remix)” for vocal tracks) with it.

What do you think?
Thanks!

I’ve used it and wanted to use it for a stand alone DIY CDJ project since it runs on linux. I think it’s very decent but for me it’s just not “mature” enough and FX are lacking. I think they would have been better of focusing primairly on one DJ style like techno or hip-hop.

I have experimented with it a little while. Had a standalone mixer build I was doing for someone. Ended up just running a NUC with windows and Traktor 3 instead. It still falls well behind the big 4. There are huge latency issues and dropout issues still.

Ohhh do you have any pics/details about that project somewhere? Would love to see it.

It was a couple years ago. I will try to dig up the progress photos from my old phone.

Yup i use MIXXX and love it. I think you are running a pretty old version though and need to upgrade.
I really do not have any complaints except for the sound card limitations. THAT being said i am running on Linux and on an older laptop, it all works just fine, but it took some time to get everything to play nice. I believe an upgraded laptop would help a lot in my situation.

OH and here is a picture of my DIY midi controller

Yup, used Mixxx as backup software for a couple of years. (Un)fortunately, my primary software (Traktor) never gave me issues so I never used Mixxx for more that testing here and there.
I’m not gonna say it is as good as the big three software but certainly I can do a show like I usually do and nobody would notice.

I’ve tried and it sucks. I prefer Virtual DJ. It’s much better dj software though it’s not free.

Yeah, Mixxx is pretty solid for a free/open-source DJ app. It’s lightweight, works with a bunch of controllers, and the library management is decent. Not perfect, but for classic trance sets like yours it’s more than capable.
