Having issues with a fader.

Having issues with a fader.

I’ve been trying the last couple days to get an answer on a couple of the older posts about how to actually clean a fader.. no luck so far.

I know i have to use rubbing alcohol, but how do I clean the fader, do i swab the inside of the fader with rubbing alcohol or do i pour some directly into the fader?

Thanks for your input

I’ve found that, in older mixers(not sure what you’re using), cleaning the crossfader was only a temporary fix. The bleeding and cracking would come right back after about a week. I even used to hold my old fader under warm water in a bowl and click it back and forth. So much shit would come out. After it was dry, I would re-insert and be fine for another week. I don’t think I would recommend that for newer ones. You can also try getting a new one. This site has alot of good stuff.

Even better would be to do a forum search, this question was answered just yesterday i do believe

Damn Fader.

Still working on trying to fix my volume fader with no luck.

I’ve tried cleaning it with a compressed air can.
I’ve tried swabbing it with rubbing alchohol.
I’ve tried dousing it in rubbing alchohol.
I’ve and I’ve tried earlier today I poured about two shots of rubbing alchohol repeatively for about 4 minutes.

Nothing worked has worked so far. I’ve tried switched the faders and the other faders work fine, so I’m assuming its just the fader.

Is this fader toast? or is there some secret remedy I’m not trying that might fix a buggy fader?

Evan, you don’t need to make a new thread for every thought you’ve got.

Drink the rubbing alcohol and just forget your worries.

lay off the crack

keep it civil guys.

@kaon
shhhh

Noted.

What type of fader/mixer is it?? And what exactly is the problem with the fader(sound bleeding, cracking)

I don’t know much about electronics etc. man, but when an electrical surface gets wet while a current running through it, it’s more than likely that the wiring will fry somewhere. If your fader still isn’t working after all the cleaning, it’s pretty likely it’s been damaged.

Maybe someone with better knowledge could give you some more optimistic news?

I’ve burned thru so many faders in my days of scratching, that it’s not funny…that is, until the “newer” faders came about. Did you check the X-Fader like I suggested? Kidfromkibbly is correct, you may want to just grab another, cause chances are, even if its cleaned, it will surely reoccur in a month from now.

The best thing to do is not to “fix” a dead fader, it’s to maintain a working fader.

or just get one of those fancy magnetic faders from rane that are like freakin’ bricks.

This makes me think of PaddyDJ on the NI boards, replaced the VCI-100 crossfader with a Pro X-Fade.

I have to ask, again due to my ignorance of electronics, could sturdier quality line faders be installed to replace the factory VCI-100 faders?

Paddy is my DJ.

… Indeed…???
