HELP: Bringing S4 to a gig

Hey,

so in 2 weeks I’ll be bringing my S4 to a club gig for the first time. One thing I’m wondering about is if I should use RCA cables to the club mixer or if I should go about setting it up differently? I’ll be the only DJ of the night so I have plenty of space.

Thanks guys.

use the RCA outputs to a LINE IN on the mixer, you should be fine.

Nervous? Don’t worry you can’t connect the S4 anyways. The S4 connects you.

Take a pair of RCA cables with you anyway, but you might want to consider balanced 1/4" TRS cables to be on the safe side.
If there’s only a short distance between your S4 and the mixer and there aren’t many other cables around that could cause interference, you should be fine with RCA though.

Ok, I got some info about the club. somehow they’ve had to send in their mixer for repairs so I need to go straight to the Amps. I no absolutely nothing about amps.

i’m kinda freaking out now :stuck_out_tongue:

depending on the amp, you will need

1/4" TRS to XLR female or male cables depending on the amp input.

or just 1/4" TRS cables.

bring a small mixer, because s4 wnt be powerfull enought to conect direclty there, you will need a mixer to boost the volume up.

It depends on the club of course, but most places will have their own in-house “master” mixer which everything is plugged in to. You are likely to need to plug in to that rather than the amp itself. In any case, it would be a good idea to grab a few different cables and bring them all with you so you can connect your S4 no matter what. RCA, TRS and TRS to XLR should be enough.

please elaborate as to why the s4 “wnt be powerfull enought to conect”

The outputs aren’t as loud/hot as DJ mixers can be. The sound guy should sort this out at his end, however.

Can´t confirm! No additional mixer needed over here.

I connect it with RCA’s into ‘Line in’ on the in house mixer.

?? ??

i dont know, why the people ask me why i say its not powerfull and that, i dont know what kind of clubs do you mix, but the S4 is not analog/digital external mixer, is just a sound card, if i put a sound card directly to the amp, no matter what soundcard is, unless is an expensive and very profesional one, wont be powerfull enought, the controllers soundcards, or the external sound cards wich are usually used by dj software users, are not made to conect directly to an amp, they are ok for home amp, but not for a big club. Iv tried this with other sound cards, and S4 itself, and you need a external mixer, like always, to give it good volume.

Ah, and…do you know the S4 doesnt have balanced ouputs, so tell me how you people do it in a good club or at least a place with a decent equiment where you need those to hook it everything allright.

And sorry for bad english by the way

I’m really not sure where you are getting that information from…

Take a look at the first screenshot below and compare it to the output specifications of any popular dj mixer. How is it different?

As for the balanced output, please see the second screenshot.

P.S. Both screenshots are from the S4 user’s guide.

quoted for truth. I definately pulled out my user guide once I read that.

Well coming from you people i will trust you, maybe my S4, wich are sold now, probably was defective as i have very bad audio quality coming from it, and directly to the amp, t least for me, was not enought, but if for the rest its ok, then probably it is. Anyways iv heard people here complaining also about that isue, where S4 for them wernt enought in some clubs without a mixer.
