i play keyboard and guitar!! so i have the ear for beat matching!!! i have messed around with proper turnables about found it quite hard!!! so i guess i am a proper beginner!!! i guess i just need advise on what product is best!! and what i will need to go with it.!!
I would say S4 if you have the cash to invent, I mean If you are gonna be able to pay 500-600 dollar straight, save up some more and get an s4 but don’t try to use all the functions right away.
Start with playing music on 2 decks, learn how to use your faders and crossfaders smoothly and then figure out what EQ’s do and then ofcourse it is always good to learn how to beatmatch and count the beats or you can get the help of ‘’ sync ‘’ button
then start with mixing 2 songs, use simple effects, learn what type of effect does and how it manipulates the songs etc.
don’t try to run before taking the babysteps
as soon as you get comfortable with mixing 2 songs, using effects, loops, cue points and all you will be able to use 4 decks easily.
and the most important thing
practice and enjoy( thanks to djtutor ) hehe
I just saw you practiced along with some tts but anyway I wrote the things above assuming you are totally beginner but it still helps.
Your ear, not your gear, makes you a dj. Buy some piece of shit rig with faders and jog wheels and practice. Check out used stuff on craigs list or amazon.com and try to get it for under 300-350. You can practice and learn the basics, and have money to blow on all kinds of other stuff that you’ll want (Solid headphones, new tracks, monitor speakers, marketing costs to promote yourself…). Then when you save your money up you will be ready for the x4 a year from now, or whatever the next thing will be.
i started off on some turntables and a mixer then went to cd’s. fell off for a few yrs, got back into it by downloading traktor and practicing on there, and decided i was good enough to pull the trigger on a s4. I have NO regrets. but if you feel the same as i, go for it. if not.. do as what others have said, go a cheap beginner route and buy used. A lot of used gear is just as good as new, people buy and change their minds. good time for you to scoop up on their loss. speakers are easy to find on craigslist. Before i bought speakers i hooked up my mixer to my surrond sound(BOSE). Which is still better quality to a lot of speakers.
Everybody has there own way of doing something if there was a standard most people would be using the same device
some people likes tons of buttons faders and knobs while others like one device to do everything with multiple levels of control that can fit in there backpack
Pick something straight forward and right infront of you for learning i.e S2/S4 everything is there plain and simple labelled and ready to go
when you get more comfortable you can map it to do more
crops of djs always show up and last about 5-6 months in the game until they realize 1) they suck 2) its hard 3) they can’t get gigs 4) the bitches and booze aith flowin.
If you remain in it that kudos because its hard, and you gotta be doing it for the love, because there will be times you play to empty room with no one caring, or you can’t get a gig, or people tell you to play something else because they want to hear lady gaga.
True!!! you guys are the masters!!!.. i feel i want it for the love of music… nothing else… i really think i know what to play and when…
i have saved up some cash so i wanna get something i like and that can do everything i want, if i want to have some fun in my firends bar that i can take my own stuff and mess around.
Few final question, difference between the s4 and the Numark N4 ?
and can i adapt the s4 so i could connect like 6/10 speakers?
If your just starting out you’re not going to be gigging for a while anyway. I wouldn’t recommend the s2 over the s4 because on Ebay they are almost the same price. I’d get the Numark Mixtrack pro if i were you purely because you might hate djing in a couple of months and if not you can upgrade with the money you have saved. Get some basic headphones (maybe the sennheiser 202 hd’s for example) which aren’t the best but again you can upgrade if your serious.
Finally I recommend watching a shit ton of videos on youtube about djing to further your knowledge. Ellaskins has a great channel with some helpful advice you should check out.
Start with a Behringer BCD3000. Its cheap, its simple and its very basic, but its a fantastic stepping stone up. Once you’ve mastered the Behringer you’ll definitely be ready for one of the big dogs and you’ll know what you want to focus on!
