HELP NEEDED! Opinions..

hey guys need help … i have 2 12 inch speakers and a 700w amplifier. However i feel they aren’t loud enough as people have sometimes asked me to turn up the music although it is already playing at its loudest according to the amp.. if ye know what i would need would it be new speakers or a new amp or even both the help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

What’s the rating for your 12"s? Hard to say without knowing but if your speakers and amp aren’t matched properly then you won’t optimise your PA. I would also consider buying a Powered sub for extra grunt.

as far as i know there 350w each and a 700w amp. they just don’t seem as loud as i expected them to be.

Yeah sounds like you’ve got no overhead in your system. Adding one or 2 subs and running the 12s as tops via an internal or external crossover should give you plenty more in the tank.

Sorry what does that mean? this is a link to the amp i have, http://media.hifitower.eu/X180/10003027_ 1_title_ibiza_amp.jpg , and i have 2 of these, http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41vWAgJAgGL._SL500_AA300_.jpg , if ye could take a quick sec and help me out it would be greatly appreciated. and send me some links maybe to something i need! Thanks!

Any chance you could send me a link with the spec of your amp and speakers? Amp pic not working.

No overhead means running at max which is never a good idea with a PA. There needs to be some headroom to play with.

Take a look at any powered subs DB, RCF, JBL, QSC, FBT, Opera etc. They will cost you but will be a worthwile addition. Also consider the aforementioned companies for powered 12 speakers too.

Oh right sorry heres the link for the amp , http://media.hifi-tower.co.uk/images/M/10003027_1_title_ibiza_amp.jpg , cant find the exact bundle i got but this seems to be fairly close, http://www.electromarket.co.uk/product/SA366/Ekho+12"+350w+Monitor+Speakers+%26+Amplifier , they are the same speakers anyways. Thanks a million for the help so far!

Are you sure your speakers are wired in phase? 700 watts seems quite ample depending on the space you’re trying to fill.

could you explain this to me too? sorry…like i’d mostly be doing small discos in local halls or outdoors. one end of the wire has an jack the other has the red, white wires which i connect to the amp? maybe im doing it wrong?

Let’s be honest. This looks like a cheap little setup that probably isn’t representing its output accurately. I can barely find any info at all about it and I looked at it on 5 different sites.

I have some recommended reading for you here -

http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/live-sound/pa-speakers/buying-guide.php

It’s going to be difficult for us to help you because you have such an unknown product as well as a limited understanding of what it all means…

I have to be honest and agree with Toon. The PA doesn’t really look up to it. The speakers are only 175 RMS each (ignore your 350w peak). I would read as much about PA’s as possible and invest in a new one.

yeah i understand completely. i can say they were cheap i was only starting off when i got them but was kind of hoping that they would have enough power to cater for my needs. thanks for the help guys! is there any that ye could recommend to me? i would be doing gigs in a medium sized enviroment, with 200-300 people! any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Sure, I would recommend getting “Active” speakers. Those are the powered ones with the amp built in to the speaker. They are priced about the same as a “Passive” speaker with a power amp.

If I were you I would get two main speakers and one subwoofer

Check out the Behringer EUROLIVE line. They are all powered, they are priced in the middle of the road, and they have a good reputation.

If you got 2 Behringer EUROLIVE B212D (US$230) and 1 Behringer EUROLIVE B1800D-PRO (US$600) it would be perfect for 300 people and it probably won’t need to be replaced for several years.

So you’d have about $1000 wrapped up into a rock solid sound system.

All of the companies I mentioned earlier in this thread make powered speakers but may cost you a bit more than the behringers. I suggest going and listening to some speakers in shops before you buy. Speakers are quite a subjective thing and you will be making a hefty investment so you want to be happy. One sub should do..two is better. As for the speakers I would buy three…two for them and one for you plus you have a back up if something should happen to one.
