Help wit a DMC style routine!!

Help wit a DMC style routine!!

i needa come up with a dmc style routine for a battle in my hometown… 1st time so help me out!!!

You should probably watch some youtube videos and practice. What are you using, controllers or turntables?

turntables… i dnt knoe wut songs and stuff

Make sure to pick something that you haven’t heard too much on DMC videos or at competitions. Showing that individuality is always good. I can’t really propose a song, but try something original. Normally good routines take huge amounts of practice to even get the basics of them laid out and even more time to perfect them.

do i scratch or just juggle??

Use as many techniques as you can throw at 'em, but in a good styled fashion.

Just go crate digging.

I would say do what your stronger at. But you can’t just beat juggle alone or scratch alone. Find good instrumentals that allow you to beat juggle on the down beat and of course good samples to scratch on. I used to transform on a godzilla sample way back in the day. I love the instrumental of “Uptempo” by RUN DMC which is on the b side of “It’s Tricky” or “122 BPM” by Jive Rythm Trax

TVo14 - I’ve wondered what that track was called for years! Thanks man!

Best quote ever “It’s not going to make a bad DJ good, but it it’ll make a good DJ better”

Yups, one of the better truths!

I’m sure I’ll sound like a dick but… why did you enter a battle without knowing what to do?

QFT honestly. You’re in it now so you might as well get at it, but you shouldn’t be hoppin into a contest unless you know EXACTLY what you want to do. That’s like entering a science fair and asking where you can score a biology textbook.

EDIT: Never mind, saw the turntables post. Look up some new scratch techniques, work on them as much as you can, make sure all your basic tricks are mastered, and be creative. Spin something you enjoy and you can only do better.

My tip for the short term - do stuff that you are really comfortable with and keep it on beat - I’ve been to so many battles were lots of people try to juggle - it wont suddenly sound better when you get on stage. If you dont win at least people will enjoy listening.

If you want to get into battling properly then you need to practice hard. Technique is very, very important - but remember its only a means to an end, try to develop your own style and try to be original in how you apply what you do (a lot easier said than done!

Heres some routines ive used in battles:
