Help With Using USB Device on Djay Pro iPad

Help With Using USB Device on Djay Pro iPad

I have an Apple USB 3 camera adapter hooked up to the Lightning port. I plugged a simple USB stereo sound device into the USB port on the Apple USB 3 adapter.

I open Djay Pro and I can hear the music clearly through the USB device.

I plug in a 3.5mm plug into the iPad headphone jack and Djay Pro kills the USB sound output. It only plays music through the iPad headphone jack and only when I click the CUE button.

But now I get no sound from the USB device.

Has anyone tried this and it worked?

I want to have two stereo outputs on Djay Pro so I can get true stereo output and cue monitoring.

Thanks.

Its a recent problem with iOS, it was causing havok in the forums a while back - you have 2 options.

  1. Split mono cable (ugh!)

  2. Get a cheap multichannel Soundcard. The Zalman RSSC works a treat without needing to be powered and can be had for under $10 From this Ebay Seller

I got the Zalman as a backup soundcard a while back and it does the trick nicely.

I have a cheap 2 channel. The 5 channel works better?

I have this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1123982&gclid=CjwKEAjwmdu5BRCg1O3a-tDY0AQSJACKPgRKKNXJhd2uaXA0FinQGSw0fqUd2foDn8NvR36xGAqAgRoCGhfw_wcB&is=REG&ap=y&m=Y&c3api=1876%2C92051677562%2C&A=details&Q=

Do you have any links of the old forum posts?

“Apparently” the newer iOS versions does not allow the use of multiple soundcards - hence your problem.

The 6 channel Zalman (and other 4+ channel cards) does the trick.

Forum topic here - goes back to iOS 8

Thanks brother. You rock.

This is so weird. Why is Apple so strange?

Ugh. My gig is tonight. Back to the splitter cable. I use Spotify and iPad DJay Pro for warm up. Since I don’t want to buy all those tunes (some of them again), and I also use it for special requests. Then I switch to Wndows/Traktor/controller for main set. I would buy DJay for Mac, but I don’t buys Macs. And this post is exactly why I wouldn’t spend $2000 on a laptop when I have no issues with a $500 laptop.

Thanks again Apple.

No Worse than Traktor or Serato not allowing dual Soundcard support (without workarounds).

Guessing it was more of an oversight than anything else, DJ apps are the only type off the top of my head that would use the function anyhow and the reasoning (guessing) is probably power saving e.g. why power an external audio device at all when you already made your soundcard choice automatically by plugging headphones into the main port.

Yeah but it was working and they broke it. And now they won’t fix it.

This is the Apple legacy. It’s not the first time I hear this record.

Just wait till Apple introduces it’s proprietary headphone jack.

Gig went well. Mono splitter on a club system. Sounded good. 8pm -10 pm. No one noticed. Not even the sound guy.

Of course I switched to Traktor at 10 pm for the heavy stuff.

I ordered the Zalmann card. Hope it works.

Thanks again.

The Zalman audio interface works !

Finally ! 4 channels on iPad.

Thanks Deevey.

Pleasure Mate

So I was mixing for 30 minutes and the audio started to wonk out.

The Zalman Audi interface would turn on and off and thus cut the audio. The main mix and the cue would drop out for 7 seconds and come back in. Then go out again.

Sounds like a power issue. I was running 100% battery at the time. So I restarted the iPad and plugged into AC power via the USB camera adapter lightning port.

I mixed again for 30 minutes with no issues. But I will continue to beta test it before I try it out in public.

I’m also going to try a powered USB hub thinking that maybe the Zalman is pulling too much from the iPad and the iOS is knocking it off.

I’ll post my findings in a few days.
