Hip-Hop is dead?

Hip-Hop is dead?

Uh-oh what have I started?

Will this reach the epic proportions of the Drum and Bass thread?

Nas seems to think so…

Nah… But I will try to stick around nonetheless.

Real hip hop to me is stuff like Tribe Called Quest, Blackstar, and Common. That’s the only examples I can think of at the moment since i’ve been listening to those 3 quite a bit lately. Hip hop like that has such strong rhymes that tells a good story or raps about issues in the world. All this new stuff is great to get a party going but so much of it sounds the same. Guys like lil wayne who rely on things like autotune and cannot rap about anything besides how great he thinks he is gets no love from me

Plus the metaphors in old hip hop hit hard. It almost catches you off guard. These new guys couldn’t make a catchy rhyme to save their life.

These ring tone rappers today claiming to be Hip-Hop artists have no idea, at all, what Hip-Hop is. I can’t stand the music that is out now…minus the original artists before this BS. There are a few around that are the exception but not many. I have changed what I primarily DJ from playing almost all hip-hop to now all dance/house.
On a bright note..Hip Hop is doing ok…I’m going to the MethodMan/Redman/Ghostface concert with DeLaSoul and others opening for them on Thursday in Times Square.

That’s cause his ex Kelis is taking all his loot$$

as a big hip hop fanatic all I can say is that hip hop is alive and well but not on radio.. u just gotta digg those digi crates… haha.. HIP HOP is alive and better an its getting to the point of endless imagination.. just look for it and with internet its easier to look for..

$55000 a MONTH!!?

Hip Hop used to be my starting point. At some point i realized that i like reealy different styles of Hip Hop than anyone, I was never into Rap that much, i always enjoyed those siiick instrumentals… no wonder i am DnB head now, lolz…

DJ Krush is one of those artist i enjoy even to this day.

I will be following this thread and looking for anything that is strange and unusual theese days. That Ohmega Watts - Stay Tuned is nice, bookmarked that one for sure.. keep em coming (i am looking to get educated and to pick up the line where i left it in 2003 or so…)…

Contemporary hip-hop that doesn’t suck:

the line between hip-hop and RAP need to be made clear. then we may see the credibility of real hip-hop artists reinstated. and cRAP will be seen for what it is.

Awesome man! Wish I could be there!

Hopefully gonna see DJ Krush at this:

That is so my music, oh boy why arent there no groups like Gangstarr anymore?

Damn, the first two beasty rec´s. I´m jealous. I think i can make up for the lack of the records in my collection with looking at my original 7inch (hey you) Rocksteady Crew EP :stuck_out_tongue: and the almost complete Gangstarr Compilation, with Jazzmattas, Guru and Premier Solo-records,instrumentals,rare classics. But you can be sure as soon as i see one of those beastie records they are so gonna be mine  Well, i´m glad i have the beastie breaks collection, and the mixmastermike beastie breaks LP.

Ah yeah, also got the 12" (Hey You! Rock Steady Crew)

The days of wayback! Rejoices.
