House party dj

House party dj

Going for a house party dj…
I want to be good and wanted, but lack the knowledge of a desirable set up.
Anyone a house party dj?
What is your set up?
Thanks

Honestly, it doesn’t matter your setup. Just bring good music cater to your crowd and play tracks you like. Have a setup your comfortable with, whether an all digital setup or a CDJ w/ traktor setup. Just as long your good and keep peoples feet moving you’ll be alright bro. That’s my advice anyway.

I’ve spun house parties on turntables with records, and time code, I’ve spun house parties with controllers and cdjs as well. Its all personal preference. We can’t tell you what you will like.

Make sure you don’t skip on stuff like lights and a good PA. People at house parties are usually drinking so they’ll notice a tonne of pretty flashing lights more than a crisp clean double drop.
Oh and setup wise just use a controller, it’s portable, relatively cheap just in case some drunk loser poor a beer on it.

Both of those arent needed for OP tho. He’s still working on the computer and controller lmao.

I’m trying to tell him not to skip on something quite a few DJ’s overlook, ask yourself this.
The OP stated that he want’s to be a desired house party DJ, key word is desired. Having even a simple set of wash lights can catch the eye of potential customers at the first party OP was to play at, even doing house parties just for friends is a business try and think about it as such. OP seems very new to DJ’ing, and I’m trying to help him by informing him on things that he might accidentally overlook.

Also, it appears we are discussing pretty much the same thing over two forums. Can we just stick to one?

Jonnol, dripstep have good point’s.

He does have very good points, but my whole point is think about more than just what you’re DJ’ing with because in the end the crowd really care how the music get from the mixer to the speakers; so long as they’re enjoying the final product.
That’s the crowd though, as Dripstep said; use whatever feels best and suits your price range.
So pretty much what you said earlier alestry.

I dj’ed for 3 years before getting lights or PA speakers. So I dont see how getting them right away in beneficial. If he spends a whack on speakers and lights and sucks, cant grasp it or gets bored then he spent a tonne for nothing?

I dont understand these boards and the amount of consumerism being fronted to every new person who posts.

Get an s2, some krk rokit 8’s and a computer and get mixing see if its even for you OP.

I know where you’re coming from, OP should work out if he likes DJ’ing in it’s most basic form before taking it a step further. But all I’m trying to do is offer advise for when he decides to take it to the next level. Like I said I completely agree the S2 is by far the most suitable start and a very powerful piece of gear.
Also, please elaborate to me this “consumerism” you’re seeing? All I can find is DJ’s trying to help other DJ’s

But in regards to the OPs original questions
Yes I did house parties for around 2 years before I had enough with drunk pre teens and started working for a local DJ’ing company.
I used a DJ I-Mix reload with a $50 strobe and a home Hi Fi system for a couple of months before I upgraded to DVS with some Eons.
Now I’m using some CDJ 900s and the companies lights and speakers for school dances and the odd house party.

So let me get this straight, you want to be a house party DJ who’s in demand, but you don’t even know what kind of set up to get? And I’m shocked that nobody even bothered to ask if this guy even knows how to DJ, from being able to actually mix tracks to knowing how to program a set and about even having an actual love and knowledge of the music to begin with.

I did lol!

He’s on the forums and the site so I assumed he has at least tried using just software and a computer. But to be honest DJ’ing can be used quite broadly now days.
Does DJTT have a thread or board devoted to beginner DJ’s yet?

Well boom boom speakers are a must. So go for it. As long as you have a quality set of speakers, the party is on man.

OP=Only 2 posts both asking about how to be a DJ=Troll?

nope. the trolls didn’t appear in this thread till later. offer the kid some useful tips or bugger off. cheers.

Well Jester is the DJTT team contemplating having a board for beginners and new DJ’s? It just seems that there’s quite a few threads on the topic or is that just lately?

Something light and mobile for travelling around in
