How are people liking both Kontrol s4 w/midi fighter
Hey guys thinking about adding the midi fighter to my setup. I am running two tech 1200’s, Kontrol s4, and a MacBook Pro i7. I have been DJing for about 11 years and I am super happy about the transition I made to Digital about 5 years ago but really want to take it to the next level with something like the midi fighter but I want to make sure it’s worth it, So WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I just got my S4 and Midifighter about a week ago. S4=fantastic. As for the midifighter, i wasn’t sure at first what i was going to do with it. The mappings that DJTT has for it have their place, but they just didn’t do it for me (to top it off, i don’t understand the banks mode thing on it). However, after djing a little bit with the S4, i soon identified certain areas where i was still required to touch the computer. So i just used the midifighter to fill in those places where i had to touch the computer. IE the bottom four buttons for me automatically copy a loop from the loop recorder into each respective loop slot in Deck D (loop deck). the top 4 buttons recall different EFX presets, another button turns on the presets, and another button is a global modifier that sends the EFX on/off/presets to either EFX deck 1 or 2.
All in all, i am sure during your sets there are times when you have to touch the computer to do something. Perhaps see if there is a way for you to use the midifighter to replace you actually going to the computer to make things feel more “organic” while DJing.
s4 for mixing, midi fighter with instant gratification to spice up the mix and transitions with effects and an iPad with TouchOSC for the sample decks if someone would hurry up and make a template that will work with core midi.
I was thinking about the same question … Should I get a MF with my S4 or not ?
I think it could be nice for some extra effects but so I think that the MF Pro could be more useful than the MF with extra faders.
Afterall, I was test the instant gratification mapping on a keyboard and I don’t feel it XD
I recently downloaded the midifighter type mapping for my launchpad. As for that, I think it is great. I do like supporting DJTT, but for the price you can’t beat the launchpad, especially if you use ableton at all. The mapping has 8 HCs, instant grad FX mapping, samples triggers (doesnt really matter if you use your S4, i know.) But my 2 cents if definitely geared for the launchpad. Theyre about $110 right now. With more features than the $200 MF, I pose the question to you of "Why not?’
I enjoy it, it’s a good supplemental controller, I prefer it since it does complex tasks with a push and release button, instead of having to move around knobs to do different beatmashing effects and what not, I can instead have a free hand to do more mixing.
I don’t really do controllerism stuff with it.
on the instant grat there’s a few things I end up not using so I’m contemplating changing the map to have only things that assist me on the mapping.
I have the mapping on my maschine and it’s pretty great. The only downfall is you may overuse effects. I find myself holding back a bit because it’s easy to go insane beatmashing.
Awesome, Thanks for all the feedback. I am going to buy one since my Sets include a lot of Effect Scratching as we call it, it is a new way to get a scratch sound on beat, I will have a tutorial out on it soon. Anyway Thanks Again.
Oh yeah, SFUNK, did you hear about the new Ipad OS with the Core Midi update, you will be able to use the Camera Kit to hook the ipad up with USB so you dont have any latency or delay issues! Its gonna be great, my programmer buddy already got his hacked Ipad 2 working like that, pretty intense!
Just got my MF this week. It’s been plugged in for 3 days but I haven’t had a spare second to get busy with it.
The good news for all you good people is that I will be writing an article on using the MF. As to when and where it gets published - that’s TOP SECRET BANANA right now. Needless to say I have a few ideas on things to do and I will share everything I find with you.
@Bigbeatzz - I may come knocking for some technical advice mate
I have been using the S4 and the MF with the Instant Gratification mapping for the past month and must say I have been thoroughly pleased…
I too try to restrain myself from over-effecting or going all “soupy” with my current 3 decks + 1 sample deck configuration. Anyway, I am new to controllerism so I am still in the middle of my learning process…
I even got my Scratch Upgrade and have not even set it up, as I am completely happy with my S4+MF.
chiming in a bit late. i’ve been using this setup now for 13 months and i love it.
i’m using 2 track decks and 2 sample decks. 4 effects are active on all decks, 2 effects are single and 2 are group. i use the midi fighter in 4 banks mode and i have a setup for effects, scratching/cueing and the sample banks.
live, my setup is used in conjunction with our crew’s scratch live setup. 3 djs, 2 setups, tag teaming galore with tons of layering when i’m not mixing on my end. i also do a bit of scratching with the setup as well.
Hi, I put this tsi into my ipad and kontrol s4 but for some reason when I cue ch A to hear on my headphones it makes a popping noise while track passes every bar? Does anyone know about this? THanks
KrisOne, go into mixer mode and you will notice that you may have one of the headphone icons on (yellow). Click on it to unhighlight. It should do the trick. it happened to me the other day. It pops to the beatgrid.
