I think a first impression is worth gold, especially on soundcloud where theres a sea of mixes you can drown in.
If i am wondering about where the music is, it sets me in another mood as when the music starts when u hit play …
I dont think any1 likes any mix to start with 10 sec of nothing followed by a track thats playing for x minutes …
An intro, or two tracks mixed from sec 1, makes a much better approach in my eyes and ears …
If you’re wondering where the music is at, it just means you have no knowledge about soundcloud and that’s exactly why you’re making this post. It should have nothing to do with “first impression”. Have you never heard the expression “don’t judge a book by its cover”?
Most DJs out there know about this and wait out or click at 10-15 seconds. You’re about to listen to an hour mix, why are you rushing the first 10 seconds? I don’t get it.
Don’t judge a mix by its 10 seconds of silence, that will allow you to post the mix and let others actually listen to it.
Yes … People dont judge by the cover … Its what we do, all the time …
When any person has a problem, he should solve it …
Or u can just wait, step aside, and wait till the problems dissapears by itself …
For you to choose wich leaves the best possible first impression …
And this doesnt apply to a dj only, this applys to any job …
I guess its all about what standards you set for yourself …
And maybe im much more serious about this then others, but i just like to give the best i have …
Perhaps… but probably because all my followers are DJs, and I don’t have many followers. I don’t post anything on Soundcloud, only promos if I need to. Honestly, I think you’re the only person making a big deal over 5-10 seconds lol So 1 out of 10 listeners will be disappointed at the first 5 seconds. If you put an special intro then someone else will be angry that there’s an intro. You can’t please everyone. Whatever you do, someone will complain. So do whatever you want.
You asked what we do and we gave our answer and you’re not happy. I don’t know what more you want. You know the answer now, if you want to post mixes on soundcloud, put an intro or leave 5 seconds of silence.
Those uploading to Soundcloud are you allowing downloads or no? I have had no issue but I also do a tracklist and downloads disabled. I’m wondering if I’d get more hits if I allowed downloads but then I might risk having the mix pulled. Then again I see numerous DJ mixes on Soundcloud available for download so…I dunno.
allow downloads - yes. You’ll get more hits and listens. I highly doubt allowing download has anything to do with the mix being pulled. The actual content of your mix is what gets it pulled.
has nothing to do with DLs allowed or not
its all about the content owner and if they have said to remove it.
Not long ago i contacted Mixcloud and told them to remove a live mix some dj put up because he never actually played at the gig.
was supposed to and never showed
then he wanted to get paid for reserving the time anyway.
He was going to be a few hours late but by then, other djs were playing so he lost is time of the night. Infact
there wasnt even any time LEFT in the night for hte place to be open so, no dice for him.
Then he recorded a mix titled “Live at ______ nightclub (promotional team name)” mixes live by DJ SO and SO
but it never happened and he was actually bad for business. He kept trying to get these underaged girls into the club.
Big no no (21+ only)
so we dropped him. and apparently, mixcloud dropped his mix
